The MMS celebrated two physicians at its Annual Women in Medicine Awards Ceremony and Networking Event hosted by the Committee on Women’s Health and Women Physicians Section. Dr. Manisha Bahl was honored as the 2024 recipient of the Women’s Health Research Award, while Dr. Kathryn Martin was awarded the 2024 Women’s Health Award. Both physicians teach at Harvard Medical School and are affiliated with Massachusetts General Hospital. The event also featured a presentation, “Healthcare in U.S. Jails,” with speaker Dr. Marcella Alsan, Professor of Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School.

The federal government in 2020 eased regulations on home hospital programs to keep people out of facilities overwhelmed by COVID cases. Two executives who were on Steward Health Care’s leadership team prior to its bankruptcy are now in the C-suite of the private equity group that bought Steward’s physician practice. Some of the thousands of doctors who worked for Steward Health Care now wonder if the malpractice insurance that was supposed to be protecting them is worthless.
