How do you convince a department to create a position for a crime analyst? This question was posed recently to our forum and our community came through with advice and resources. Below are some key takeaways, what suggestions do you have? - IACA has resources to assist in developing a persuasive argument: https://lnkd.in/eMR2QmgG - Consider volunteering in that position to show the benefit - Look to law enforcement adjacent agencies such as the District Attorney's office - If the police chief/sheriff is resistant to an analyst position, consider appealing to someone further down the organization chart that may have a clearer vision of what an analyst could bring to the agency to help convince others - Appeal to their budget, a civilian employee tends to costs significantly less than a sworn position and there is much less turnover (leading to an immense knowledge base) - Having a crime analyst is important for accreditation purposes with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) To add to the conversation: https://lnkd.in/eXK3Ue9C (members must log in)
