November marks both #AlzheimersAwarenessMonth & #FamilyCaregiverMonth. It’s a perfect time to share some ways that you can support a caregiver for a loved one with dementia. ? Talk to the caregiver and ask them how everything is going. Acknowledge that they have a lot to manage, and let them know that you think they are doing a good job. ? If you do not know what to say to the caregiver, it’s fine to admit that. You could say, “I don’t really know what to say to you, but I’m sure this is hard. Please let me know if I can support you in some way.” ? Offer suggestions to help, such as going to the grocery store for them, raking the leaves,??putting away outdoor seasonal furniture, or picking up items from the dry cleaner. ? Caregiving can be lonely. Ask the caregiver if they want to set up a time to talk weekly or meet for coffee. Talking can be a great stress reliever.
