MEC is proud to be part of the Honolulu Rail Transit project, which is the first fully automated elevated rail system in the U.S. This 20-mile rail line is set to revolutionize Oahu’s public transit by providing a reliable and efficient transportation option for residents and visitors, reducing carbon emissions and enhancing safety with state-of-the-art driverless technology. Our team is responsible for the train control across the entire project and for building the communications systems for Segments 1 and 2. The first segment opened to the public in June 2023 and the second segment, which includes stations at Pearl Harbor and the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, should be ready for operations in late 2025.

We’re in the final stages of the Foothill Gold Line light rail project, with over 90% of the work now complete. Along a 9.1-mile stretch, our crews have constructed 19 new or renovated bridges, completed 21 at-grade street crossings, relocated nine miles of freight track and all light rail tracks are in place. Currently, we’re focused on the last remaining tasks, including critical train testing and final punch list items. This testing ensures all systems function seamlessly, providing a safe and dependable service for future riders. Quality and safety remain top priorities as we near the finish line. The four new light rail stations are also close to completion, featuring artwork by city-selected artists and additional enhancements that will elevate the overall experience. We’re grateful for the community’s continued support as we approach this milestone. ?? Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority

Together, we continue to build a culture that benefits our employees, projects, clients and communities. #ConstructionInclusionWeek

MEC, the systems installation contractor for Ottawa’s Stage 2 LRT Project, has completed work on the East Segment of the light rail extension and is now focusing on the West Segment. Our team will soon begin installing the Overhead Catenary System (OCS) in the West, which will require 350 posts. These posts support the electrical cables that power the trains and are installed down the middle of the guideway. Once complete, the East extension will add 7.8 miles of new track and five stations, while the West extension will feature nine more miles and 11 new stations.
