For a more livable city from sidewalk to skyline.
关于我们
The Municipal Art Society of New York (MAS) lifts up the voices of the people in the debates that shape New York’s built environment and leads the way toward a more livable city from sidewalk to skyline. MAS envisions a future in which all New Yorkers share in the richness of city life—where growth is balanced, character endures, and a resilient future is secured. Since 1893, our advocacy efforts have led to the creation of the New York City Planning Commission, Public Design Commission, Landmarks Preservation Commission, and the Tribute in Light; the preservation of Grand Central Terminal, the lights of Times Square, and the Garment District; the conservation of more than 50 works of public art; and the founding of such civic organizations as the Public Art Fund, the New York Landmarks Conservancy, P.S. 1, the Historic Districts Council, the Park Avenue Armory Conservancy, and the Waterfront Alliance.

Join us on?Wednesday, December 11 from 9-10:30 AM?for an in-depth discussion on?Local Law 97, New York City’s landmark building emissions law, at our next?Closer LOOK?panel. Hear from leaders in climate law, decarbonization, and sustainable development as they explore the challenges and opportunities of this groundbreaking legislation. Passed in 2019,?Local Law 97,?is one of the nation’s most ambitious laws standardizing building-based carbon emissions reductions. It requires most buildings over 25,000 square feet to comply with energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions limits starting in 2024, with stricter standards to be imposed by 2030. While the success of LL97 is pivotal to New York City achieving its goal of zero emissions from buildings by 2050, many questions remain about how the law is applied, what property owners need to do to comply, the penalties for non-compliance, and ultimately what needs to happen for the city to meet its climate change goals. The law has already faced legislative and legal challenges and push back from property owners. Our panelists include?Carlos Cereza Davila?(Head of Sustainability, KPF),?Jonathan Flaherty?(Managing Director, Global Head of Sustainability and Building Technologies, Tishman Speyer), and?Amy Turner?(Director of Cities Climate Law Initiative, Sabin Center, Columbia Law School). American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification maintenance credits will be available for this event. Breakfast will be provided for all attendees.
