Military Affiliated Students of Harris (MASH) aims to serve those who served. Its primary mission is to support current and former service members, their dependents, and those who come from a military family, with the transition to student life, professional development, research, volunteerism, and providing a place for us all to come together. Secondly, we seek to engender greater familiarity amongst our Harris community with veterans, issues related to veterans, and the role we can all play in shaping policy to support this diverse, uniquely service-minded, and unfortunately often forgotten demographic. Third, MASH was founded to support those affiliated with the military, but is also inclusive and welcomes all Harris students who simply wish to join their fellow classmates in camaraderie and working to solve issues related to veterans. Finally, we aid prospective candidates through the admissions process, advocate for admission of qualified applicants, and ultimately promote the Harris School of Public Policy as THE school of public policy for the military affiliated community.

Happy Memorial Day to the servicemen and women who have given their lives for our nation, and to those who continue to actively fight for our freedom. MASH had the honor of participating in the Memorial Day Weekend Chicago Veterans Ruck March to raise awareness for veteran suicide prevention efforts and to remember those lost at home and on the battlefield. In the words of our faculty advisor and former Army captain Ron Gibbs, “We must always honor the warrior and not the war.”
