    The future of AI and the sought-after Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) will be the ability to adapt to new conditions and applications beyond that which it was trained. Training a system how to move, for instance, in any space regardless of the mode of travel or being able to assess the 3 dimensionality of any space, whether as a car driving or as a bartender serving drinks. Current AI models require a lot of training data from which the model creates behaviors based on observed patterns (within that data). Every situation/application therefore requires a lot of data collection before having a successful model. But training that model to learn generalities, more like humans do, that can be applied to any situation will be key to developing more robust AI models and eventually AGI. https://lnkd.in/g4-TnWPn

    With training data for AI both limited in scope (just because data isn't collected about everything, everywhere and is therefore biased already) AND in quantity, we are going to need other ways to train AI systems. And that means live training... essentially teachers. If we consider AI to be a child, a nacent consciousness even, then it makes sense to consider that we will need to teach these new systems with both old data (knowledge) and more interactive, live methods... just like our teachers. And that might mean getting more people from every part of our society to be involved. It won't be programmers that we will need anymore, it will be design thinkers. We have the base, though narrow, for LLM's and AI systems. Now we need to nurture the growth with the same empathy and care as we'd expect when we teach our students. https://lnkd.in/gCEqeD4B

    If you've been following the war in Ukraine, you've undoubtedly heard about the usage of drones on both sides of the conflict. Reuters does a very thorough study of the drones - technology adapted from UAV's made in China in fact. (https://lnkd.in/dPnhNUs7) It was inevitable, you might say, to put weapons onto a robot. Honestly I am surprised I hadn't seen more of it earlier. Robots and drones are making their way into police force (https://lnkd.in/e8FfSkGB) But it looks like at least the Chinese army is taking it up a notch and strapping a gun onto their robotic dog. Of course, you know what that means... all other armies will have to have their own version and counter measures. And now with AI developing further, it's a new era for warfare dawning, for sure. https://lnkd.in/eVGU6wFB

    Everyone at this point has heard about Boston Dynamics' Electric Atlas (vs. the previous hydraulic Atlas that danced its way into our hearts). But in case you haven't seen the movement of the new version of Atlast, take a look. It's impressive. You see some complex maneuvering (the bend and 180 twist) that reminiscent of the robot in iRobot. Bipedal movement is getting better and better spurred by all the R&D on top of advancing technology (stronger servo's, higher density batteries and algorithms resulting from machine learning). Boston Dynamics Atlas' history is particularly awe inspiring, watching it do back flips and dance is a testament to these advances. As Peter H. Diamandis mentions in his blog, "While other robots are designed with specific commercial applications in mind, Atlas serves as a beacon for exploring the outer limits of what is possible in robotics. This freedom from the constraints of immediate commercial viability allows Boston Dynamics to push Atlas to new heights, exploring complex interactions with the environment and refining its understanding of robotic motion and balance." This video is a reminder too how fast robotics are advancing. In part it is exciting. As Diamandis continues "the legacy of Boston Dynamics and the ongoing evolution of Atlas stand as a testament to human ingenuity and the relentless pursuit of innovation." Exploration, search and rescue, dangerous jobs, increasing productivity to provide for a growing population. There are certainly benefits. The other side of these advancements is the challenges the new technologies (like every jump in history): can society and politics keep up with this fast pace? Jobs will be changing, some lost, some gained... but there will be a workforce that may not be able to adapt fast enough to keep up with these changes. And what will government and companies do to secure the safe use? Right now it feels one sided and just like the environment, our livelihood can be at risk as equal to the benefits due to this "relentless pursuit of innovation" https://lnkd.in/g6e2bCPW
