  • At the Maryland Space Business Roundtable (MSBR) luncheon on March 19, 2025, Rep. Glenn Ivey (D-MD) provided valuable insights into the current state of funding for NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration, NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, and the United States Space Force from the House perspective. He emphasized the critical role of fostering and maintaining public-private partnerships, especially in these challenging times, to drive innovation and progress in the aerospace sector. Rep. Ivey highlighted Maryland's unique position as a hub for innovation, given the presence of key federal agencies like NASA and NOAA, military institutions such as the Navy, and esteemed academic entities including the University of Maryland and The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. This regional synergy creates unparalleled opportunities for collaboration and advancement. Addressing the future workforce, Rep. Ivey underscored the importance of cultivating a robust pipeline of STEM students. He advocated for industry partnerships at both college and high school levels to engage students early, sparking interest and involvement in STEM fields. Furthermore, he stressed the necessity of maintaining a strong federal workforce at NASA and NOAA, and how industry can play a supportive role in this endeavor. Also being held at Martin’s Crosswinds was the American Astronomical Society (AAS) Goddard Space Science Symposium. MSBR invited AAS symposium attendees to join our luncheon, network with our members and guests, and hear Rep. Ivey’s presentation. We were happy to collaborate with our AAS peers! The event served as a powerful reminder of the collective efforts required to sustain and enhance our nation's leadership in space and technology.

  • The Maryland Space Business Roundtable (MSBR) was excited to kick off the new year with our monthly (now on Wednesdays!) luncheon at Martin’s Crosswinds in Greenbelt, MD. January’s luncheon showcased a panel from academia to discuss initiatives, partnerships and plans to work with industry and Government to increase opportunities for Maryland businesses. "Unlocking Cosmic Potential: Harnessing University Partnerships as Force Multipliers in Our Space Mission" We were joined by a panel of distinguished University representatives: Dr. Aminta Breaux, President, Bowie State University, Dr. Jelena Srebric, Director of Center for Sustainability in the Built Environment, University of Maryland, and Dr. Ruey-Hung Chen, Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Maryland Baltimore County. Some of the discussions focused on current university initiatives that help spur collaboration and cooperation among academia, industry, and government. We also discussed ways in which industry could support academia through internships, scholarships, events, and other opportunities and how innovation is increasing the need for STEM-educated graduates in the aerospace field. Our collective mission transcends individual agency boundaries, uniting us in a common goal: harnessing the collective power of our nation’s brightest minds and most advanced technologies. Force multipliers aren’t just theoretical concepts—they’re the cornerstone of our shared strategy. By leveraging the intellectual capital of our universities, we’re not merely expanding our research capabilities; we’re cultivating an ecosystem of innovation that spans from the classroom to the cosmos. #MSBR #SpaceInnovation #UniversityPartnerships #MDSpace
