关于我们
Maryland Latinos Unidos (MLU) is a statewide network of organizations, businesses, and individuals who support Latino and immigrant communities. We work within and with the Latino/Hispanic community in Maryland by supporting Latino-serving nonprofits, convening around public policy priorities, and working together in common cause. Maryland Latinos Unidos exists to call attention to the disparities and inequities faced by Latino and immigrant communities, to find solutions, and to address these problems with coordinated action. MLU is not providing direct services – we are prioritizing the capacity-building of our grassroots Hispanic-serving organizations to ensure that all Latinos access necessary services. Collectively, we can accomplish more. Become a member and see how much we can do together!

This past Saturday, on hashtag #InternationalWomensDay, Maryland Latinos Unidos and SheRises Inc. partnered with Holycross Hospital to host the first-ever Mommy Pop-Up Closet in Montgomery County! We had the honor of serving over 20 teen and adolescent moms, creating a space where they could feel seen, supported, and celebrated. At the baby boutique, they picked out clothes for their little ones, shared their stories with our team, and received care packages filled with essentials like diapers, wipes, nursing supplies, and formula. But more than that, they were reminded that they are not alone on this journey and they are heard ? There was also the gentleman experience—where young men stepped up to carry items for the moms, whether to their cars or the bus stop. A simple yet powerful gesture showing that support comes from the whole community and teaching our young men to step up for our women and girls. This event was especially meaningful to MLU because our employees have been teen mothers and resources like this didn’t exist. They know firsthand how much it means to have a village around you. That’s why this work matters so deeply. A heartfelt thank you to Sherise Holden, PMP and her incredible team for making this possible. It was a truly magical moment—women and girls coming together to uplift and empower one another. Empowered women empower women ?? And to all our partners who contributed resources for moms—thank you for being part of this movement. Let’s keep building this village, together. Series Conclusion: Building Unity and Changing the World Together We talk about how history isn’t just about the past, but the future we build together. This Black History Month, we are challenged to carry the torch of unity forward. The story of Mexodus teaches us that when we stand together, we can overcome anything, but unity takes work. Systemic racism, inequality, and division still plague our communities, but like our ancestors, we have the power to change the narrative. Let’s support and lift each other up, and fight for justice together. We’re encouraged to learn about each other’s histories, stand up for each other’s rights, and remember that our strength lies in our unity. When Black and Latino communities come together, we don’t just make history - we change the world. The next chapter is ours to write. #BlackHistoryMonth?#Unity?#SystemicRacism?#Inequality?#Justice?#latino?#community?#latina?#latinx?#maryland?#hispanic?#education?#latinocommunity?#latine?#latinevoices?#BlackAndLatinoCommunities?#slavery?#blackhistory?#blackandbrown?#history?#historyfacts?#historylesson?#calltoaction?#unity

The Unbreakable Alliance: African-Americans and Mexicans in the Struggle for Freedom What happens when two oppressed communities join forces? Well, they become unstoppable. By the 1860s, the alliance between African-Americans and Mexicans was stronger than ever. Together, they created a network of safe houses, secret routes, and coded messages to help more people escape slavery. But this unity wasn’t just about survival. It was about resistance. In Texas, Black and Mexican communities worked together to sabotage plantations and disrupt the slave economy. Well, they shared resources, knowledge, and hope. And then came June 19th, 1865, Juneteenth, the day freedom finally reached Texas. But here’s the question. Would this newfound freedom strengthen their bond or tear it apart? As celebrations erupted across Texas, a new challenge loomed on the horizon. What happened to the alliance after slavery ended? Don’t miss the next chapter. - #OpressedCommunities?#AfricanAmericans?#Mexicans?#UndergroundRailroad?#Resistance?#Juneteenth?#freedomstruggle?#humanrights?#slavery?#slaves?#unity?#resilience?#community?#cometogether?#blackandbrown?#together?#togetherforever?#theynotlikeus?#maryland?#learn?#learnmore?#education?#latino?#latina

In honor of Maternal Health Awareness Day, MLU is showcasing our maternal health workers and how they view the mission. We stand proudly alongside other organizations providing the necessary healthcare to the most vulnerable populations. Beyond this, we stand with the people and the mothers who are on a beautiful path of giving life into this world. No mother should have to worry about this process or resources. Where leadership falls short, our community, and MLU, will be there. . . Always! Introducing Wendy Cruz! A stellar maternity health ambassador stepping up to answer the question why it is valuable for the Latino community to be aware of maternal health?Wendy has an associates degree in nursing from Montgomery College and a bachelor’s in public health science from UMD. Wendy brings a lot of experience from her family support work at Mary’s Center and history as a Medical assistant with GW Medical Faculty. - Please help us spread our message across all platforms! As our daring coverage of black and brown unity continues, we explore a different side of history than you’re used to hearing. . . In this video, We talk about the secret path to freedom in the South known as the Underground Railroad to Mexico. Enslaved people had to navigate dangerous terrain, evade slave catchers, and cross the Rio Grande, but were helped by Mexican guides like Catarino Garza, a Mexican revolutionary who fought for the rights of the oppressed. However, the U.S. government pressured Mexico to return their escaped slaves. - #UndergroundRailroad?#BlackHistory?#EscapedSlaves?#MexicanRevolutionary?#humanrights?#blackandbrown?#blm?#blackhistorymonth?#latino?#community?#latina?#latinx?#maryland?#hispanic?#education?#latinocommunity?#latine

This Black History Month, MLU will highlight beautiful stories of unity and hope between African American slaves and the people of Mexico! These stories center on how different communities of color came together when they needed each other the most! These stories would not have been in your history books! But they will be shared here. You will be seeing certain parallels that even exist today! Our hope in providing this education is that we can bring about the same unity and support that is needed now more than ever. Stay tuned for the next 4 parts! - #unity?#community?community?#education?#civic?#civicduty?#society?#maryland?#latinaculture?#latinasvote?#latino?#latinos?#latinosenusa?????#latinx?#latinpower?#latine?#informed?#stayinformed?#learn?#black?#blackhistory?#blackhistorymonth?#blackandlatino?#african?#africanamerican?#freedom?#slavery Carlos Orbe, Jr. MPM Kelly Velazquez Uma?a Gabriela D.
