There are still a few days left in October, but we can already say it has been a special month for MIH. Our Housing Support Services team has successfully supported six individuals in transitioning into their chosen housing since Oct. 1, marking the highest number of transitions achieved in a single month!

On Oct. 7, the HOWARD COUNTY HOUSING COMMISSION heard testimony from the public regarding the updating of its Administrative Plan. MIH, along with friends from People On The Go of Maryland and The Arc of Howard County, advocated for the Commission to set aside vouchers for people with disabilities in Howard County or help them obtain vouchers through direct referral at the Commission’s headquarters in Columbia. https://buff.ly/3BNgMxS

MIH Executive Director Tim Wiens recently met with Steve Keener of Jubilee Association of Maryland, Loralei Lavoie of OREGON MENNONITE RESIDENTIAL SERVICES INC and Jennifer Knapp of Community Vision, Inc. to discuss the state of supported living in Oregon. Community Vision provides support to 40 people who have developmental disabilities and who live in their own homes in Portland. There was great interest in the potential of Oregon developing housing support services and rental subsidies similar those in Maryland.
