Maryland continues to be recognized as a national leader for minority-owned business opportunities. Last week we co-hosted the Governor's Minority and Small Business Outreach Summit, which brought together small, minority, veteran and women-owned firms, prime contractors, and state agencies to network and preview more than $7 billion in public contracting opportunities with the State of Maryland. The annual summit is an important platform to help expand the network of qualified subcontractors to meet contracting diversity goals. And this year's event was a big success, with more than 800 attendees. Thank you to all our partners who help make this event possible, including the Maryland Department of General Services, the University System of Maryland and the Governor’s Office of Small, Minority and Women Business Affairs.

Secretary Paul Wiedefeld this week provided an update on the Port of Baltimore at The State of the Ports Address in Baltimore. The meeting, hosted by the World Trade Center Institute and held at the World Trade Center, focused on the opportunities available at Maryland's ports while providing insight into the latest trends involving international trade.

Wes Moore, the Maryland Department of Transportation, and the Maryland Department of Labor announced a $24 million investment to help prepare highly-skilled workers. The money will target programs helping women, young people, people facing housing insecurity, and people with disabilities. Maryland's Eastern Shore is a trifecta of opportunity this National Apprenticeship Week! Talbot County Public Schools and Caroline County Public Schools are hosting events to help students explore how youth apprenticeships can fit into their school day and shape their career identities, while Queen Anne's County Public Schools is partnering with employers to create more apprenticeship opportunities for local youth. On Wednesday, Secretary Wiedefeld participated in a panel during the Maryland Chamber of Commerce Transportation Policy forum, along with Delegate Vaughn Stewart, Director of the Center for MultiModal Mobility Cinzia Cirrillo and Senior Policy Analyst for the Tax Foundation Andrey Yushkov. Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller was the event's keynote speaker and spoke about the evolving transportation landscape in Maryland.
