Wes Moore, the Maryland Department of Transportation, and the Maryland Department of Labor announced a $24 million investment to help prepare highly-skilled workers. The money will target programs helping women, young people, people facing housing insecurity, and people with disabilities. Maryland's Eastern Shore is a trifecta of opportunity this National Apprenticeship Week! Talbot County Public Schools and Caroline County Public Schools are hosting events to help students explore how youth apprenticeships can fit into their school day and shape their career identities, while Queen Anne's County Public Schools is partnering with employers to create more apprenticeship opportunities for local youth. Gov. Wes Moore today welcomed hundreds of representatives of small and minority-owned businesses to Baltimore City for the annual Governor’s Minority & Small Business Outreach Summit. The conference brings together small, minority, veteran and women-owned firms, prime contractors and state agencies to network, provide best practices and preview more than $7 billion in public contracting opportunities with the State of Maryland.

On Sunday, MDOT joined the third annual Ride for Your Life as part of the commemoration of the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. The ride honors the memory of Sarah Debbink Langenkamp, who died riding her bike in Bethesda in 2022 and is part of a global network of events to raise awareness and encourage action on the over 1 million annual traffic deaths worldwide. At the ride start in Bethesda, Assistant Secretary Joe McAndrew highlighted the Department’s commitment to Vision Zero and the work that needs to be done to achieve the goal of zero deaths on Maryland roads.
