The Howard County Public School System was the first in Maryland to have students graduate high school while they were also participating in a Registered Apprenticeship program. Now, those grads have completed their apprenticeships, earning $70,000 to $80,000/yr as licensed electricians right away, and more students are ready to start that journey. Maryland Department of Labor Secrtary Portia Wu was thrilled to join Howard County Executive Dr. Calvin Ball and Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE)'s Tracy Kyttle today in speaking with 250 students from #HCPSS about the tremendous opportunities that apprenticeship offers. #NAW2024 #ApprenticeshipUSA!
