  • Happy Maryland Monday, Terps!?? Today we're celebrating Geary Francis "Swede" Eppley '26! After serving in World War I, Eppley finished his degree at UMD and became assistant professor of agronomy in 1922. He later coached Maryland’s track team to two national championships and as the director and faculty chairman of athletics, he helped found the Atlantic Coast Conference and served as its first president. Called to duty again for World War II, Eppley earned the Legion of Merit. In 2006, the Campus Recreation Center located near the freshman dorms was named in his honor. Eppley is the definition of Maryland Pride! #MarylandMonday #MarylandPride
