With years of experience in prevention, treatment, administration, and direct client care, Abdullah is dedicated to helping individuals and families overcome the challenges of problem gambling. Maryhaven’s gambling experts provide free treatment for Franklin County residents and offer prevention outreach to those at risk. A New York Times article reveals a staggering rise in alcohol-related deaths, which have more than doubled from 1999 to 2020, claiming nearly 50,000 lives in 2020 alone. While men are historically more prone to alcohol related deaths, studies are showing women and older adults are especially vulnerable, with alcohol-related death rates among women rising 2.5 times over the last two decades. Maryhaven’s President & CEO, Oyauma Garrison, delivered an inspiring keynote address at the 21st Annual Corporate Connections Scholarship & Awards Banquet hosted by Nationwide. His powerful message on the importance of having a mentor, coach, and advocate resonated with all in attendance. He also highlighted how results and relationships generally will lead to opportunities, offering examples from his personal experiences that brought his point to life. Maryhaven is accepting clients in Franklin County for problem gambling counseling. This program is at no cost to Franklin County residents. The gambling intervention program now offers outpatient group therapy along with outpatient individual counseling. We can also provide brief intervention, education, screening, assessment, and referral. We were honored to host Director of the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS) LeeAnne Cornyn and her leadership team for a tour of Maryhaven’s main campus this week. Director Cornyn, appointed by Governor Mike DeWine in December 2023, has dedicated her career to serving Ohio’s most vulnerable populations, including those affected by mental illness and substance use disorder. Her visit highlighted our shared commitment to improving access to mental health and addiction services throughout Ohio. Together, we continue the important work of making a difference in our community.
