With Dry January fast approaching, we wanted to know -- is cannabis healthier than alcohol? We spoke with Dr. Desiree Granados, a Miami-based OBGYN and cannabis expert, who broke it down for us: Short-Term Effects: While both alcohol and cannabis affect your brain and mood, alcohol is harsher on your immune system and overall health—even from the first sip. Hormonal Health: Alcohol disrupts the balance of estrogen and progesterone, leading to menstrual irregularities and fertility challenges. Cannabis can also affect ovulation but may provide relief for menstrual pain in some women. Long-Term Risks: Even moderate alcohol consumption increases the risk of breast cancer and other health issues. Cannabis, when consumed responsibly (especially in non-smokable forms like edibles), is less harmful and may even offer benefits. The takeaway? While both substances have their pros and cons, cannabis emerges as the more body-friendly choice when used mindfully.
