Proud of Matt Billings and McKenna Hubbard’s incredible journey as ASU Marvin Andrews/Jane Morris Fellowship Fellows! Through hands-on experience with Valley Benchmark Communities (VBC), our ASU School of Public Affairs MPA graduate students have developed an impressive data science skill set-from analyzing complex datasets to creating powerful visualizations that bring insights to life. Watching them grow into confident data scientists has been inspiring. As one of the largest and longest-running performance management consortiums in the United States, VBC unites 12 Arizona municipalities in a mission to enhance local government effectiveness. Our work in identifying and analyzing demographic and performance metrics has been instrumental in supporting the residents of our Phoenix-metropolitan communities. The commitment and teamwork of everyone involved in promoting transparent, data-driven governance serve as a strong model for local governments across the country. A special shout out to National Bank of Arizona and Stifel Financial Corp. for hosting our annual fundraiser and thanks to all who attended to support the VBC and our Fellowship.

Last week, second-year Marvin Andrews Fellow, Sam Badger had the awesome opportunity to go behind the scenes at the Waste Management Phoenix Open with the City of Scottsdale. ?? Sam got a firsthand look at the dedication and hard work of public safety professionals who ensure the event remains fun and safe for everyone. ?? Additionally, she had the chance to visit one of the exclusive Skybox 16 suites, offering stunning views of the course. ?? This was Sam's first time at the "People's Open," and it's safe to say it won't be her last! ?? Some of our fellows had the incredible opportunity to attend the annual Local Government Hispanic Network (LGHN) Conference in the City of Mesa, Arizona! This gathering brought together individuals from across the country to promote excellence among Hispanic/Latino local government professionals and address key issues affecting our communities. ??The conference provided a valuable platform for our fellows to engage with amazing leaders, explore innovative solutions to municipal challenges, and deepen their understanding of local government. They participated in insightful discussions and also connected with fellowship alumni who are making a meaningful impact in the field. ??A special thank you to LGHN for inviting our Fellows to participate and for supporting the next generation of local government leaders!

This past week, the Fellows had the incredible opportunity to attend the annual Arizona City/County Management Association (ACMA) conference in Sedona, where we strengthened existing relationships, connected with inspiring leaders from across the state, and explored critical topics shaping the future of local government. ?? A major highlight was the "Bridging Divides" panel session, where our very own Zach Hill and McKenna Hubbard represented ASU as panelists. They shared valuable insights on fostering inclusive communities and building dynamic organizational cultures while addressing generational and workforce challenges. Their contributions to the discussion were truly inspiring! ?? In addition to participating in thought- provoking sessions and attending the Faculty & Student Reception, the Fellows actively engaged in meaningful discussions on ethical decision-making, collaborative conversations at the Associate Members Corner, and strategies for fostering safe and inclusive environments for public service leaders. ??The conference was packed with opportunities to learn, grow, and connect—each experience providing valuable takeaways that will shape our growth and future contributions to the field of public service.
