New York City Economic Development Corporation launches applications for the second cohort of the NYC Mass Timber Studio, building on the success of the first cohort which Marvel had the opportunity to participate in as part of the design team of the Walter Gladwin Recreation Center. “Our participation in the Mass Timber Studio was fundamental to the successful design completion and permitting of the Gladwin project. Our team was honored to have such an opportunity. We continue to build on this inspiring experience which paved a path forward to developing low carbon and sustainable design solutions for our public projects across our city,” said?Martha Bush, Director of Marvel. 关于我们
Marvel is dedicated to shaping public space, designing for institutional growth, and expanding economic and creative opportunities for a wide range of clients. Our architects and urban designers integrate the built and natural environments in every project—from infrastructure development and adaptive reuse to master planning, block building, park, and waterfront design, as well as multi- and single-family housing. We apply the same meticulous attention to detail to all scales and forms, with the resulting projects and spaces earning our reputation for sensitive and thoughtful design. Our strength comes from working with a diversity of clients. We have successfully completed projects for mixed-use developers, iconic retail brands, galleries and museums, public and private educational institutions, and city agencies. We have earned a national reputation for designing at the intersection of public and private space, from security bollards on Wall Street to a 550,000-square-foot hotel/condo situated in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Rather than specializing in a “look” or typology, our process consistently uncovers essential qualities of sites and existing structures and uses them to bring meaning to the new project through rigorous research and analysis. Our multi-disciplinary studio collaborates throughout the design and construction process to meet our clients’ economic and occupancy requirements, be it to efficiently address an immediate need or develop a long-term phasing and development plan. We are experienced at tackling a variety of challenges with innovative design solutions, as well as transforming ordinary projects into remarkable ones. After more than twenty years working in New York City and across the country, our team has pioneered an entrepreneurial approach to architecture and place-making that has been recognized by more than 60 design and industry awards from peer and client groups.

Marvel concluded the M/10 Challenge events last year with a special Women’s History Month edition with Tizziana Maria Baldenebro, Executive Director at the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation (BWAF), and Kate Reggev, architect and columnist at Madame Architect. Tizziana Baldenebro is the Executive Director of the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation. An arts administrator, curator, writer, and critic, her practice focuses on emerging artists and designers. Tizziana has held a number of curatorial positions at museums and nonprofits like the Art Institute of Chicago’s Department of Architecture and Design, the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, and the arts nonprofit SPACES in Cleveland. She is an organizer and activist in the effort to produce equitable cultural centers. Tizziana challenges Marvel to learn from the pandemic and to be more intentional and mindful of the projects we choose to take on, to do it “end of cycle instead of end of day.” #designeverywhereforeveryone #M10 #M10Challenge

At the fifth and final M/10 Challenge event, Marvel celebrated Women’s History month last year by inviting Kate Reggev, AIA and Tizziana Baldenebro, both trailblazers in their own right. Kate Reggev is an architect, educator and historical columnist for Madame Architect. Her belief in the power of design to change and enhance lives extends to her work as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning & Preservation, where she teaches in the Preservation program. She lectures about preservation and architectural history across the country and also writes about design for Architectural Digest, Dwell, and other industry publications. Kate challenges Marvel to take more initiative into bringing more equity into projects, beyond just the balance of gender and race within the firm, but looking toward the project as a whole. #designeverywhereforeveryone #M10 #M10Challenge

Last week marked a momentous occasion for Marvel , Phipps Houses, Lettire Construction Corp., and DeSimone Consulting Engineering– the final topping out of the Rockaway Village project, an ambitious plan to bring 1,700 affordable housing units to the center of downtown Far Rockaway in Queens.? This previously under-utilized site between the A-train terminus and the Long Island Rail Road is well on its way to becoming a vibrant downtown for locals of the neighborhood. It was incredibly rewarding to witness the beginnings of street activation as we celebrated the topping out of building E, the final building of this housing complex. We are so honored that our design has played a part in making this community a reality for current and future residents of Rockaway Village.? Representing Marvel: Héctor G. Rodríguez Burgos, Annya Y. Ramirez-Jimenez, Magnus Westergren Congratulations to the design team: Guido Hartray, Annya Y. Ramirez-Jimenez, Magnus Westergren, Enrique Ramón, Ernesto L. Vázquez González, Juan Ramirez, Juan C.
