The Marvel team proudly received the PDC Design Excellence Award at Gracie Mansion Conservancy on October 30 for the Walter Gladwin Recreation Center, a new community center designed in collaboration with NYC Department of Design and Construction. The Public Design Commission annually awards projects that represent the impact that public spaces can have on our day to day life in the city. This recreation center will be located within the park along East Tremont Avenue, and will provide space for inclusive and universally accessible fitness amenities and programming for all ages. The new facility will be a warm and human-centered space where the diverse Tremont community can gather and connect. The new 5-story Class A office building at 2440 Fulton Street is almost complete in Brooklyn, New York. The 400,000 SF building will be home to the New York City Department of Social Services' (DSS) Human Resources Administration, with an additional 80,000 SF of private-market commercial space, retail at the base, and parking for 300 vehicles. At the third M/10 Challenge event, Partner Annya Y. Ramirez-Jimenez, AIA and Tim Fryatt, AIA moderated a discussion about design excellence, particularly in public work. Aileen Fuchs of the National Building Museum and Michaela Metcalfe of the NYC Department of Design and Construction shared their thoughts as well as what they challenge Marvel to do as we continue as a firm. Michaela is an architect dedicated to mindfully shaping public space.? For over twenty years she has worked in public and private sectors with a focus on creating more equitable, sustainable, and resilient communities.
