Artistic landscapes and innovative climate solutions
关于我们
Martha Schwartz Partners (MSP) creates artistic, functional, and sustainable landscape designs. Our work addresses the impacts of climate change, and provides for happy, healthy communities. We design and implement creative landscape solutions for plazas, parks, institutions and corporate headquarters as well as large-scale masterplans and urban regeneration projects. Our expertise allows us to nurture communities and the environment in spaces where humanity and nature can be in balance. By appreciating how landscapes and communities impact on each other, we create sustainable spaces which people enjoy, and which also encourage biodiversity and protect the planet. With offices in London, New York and Shanghai, MSP creates artistic landscape designs for projects in over 40 countries. MSP’s nature-based approach encourages city leaders, planners and engineers to appreciate how the public landscape can deliver environmental, economic and social sustainability. We are involved in academic research to continually improve our understanding of how we can protect and regenerate natural ecosystems to mitigate the impacts of climate change. Hailing from all over the globe, our diverse team of landscape architects, urban planners, horticulturalists and project managers works successfully across all scales and cultures, including the most challenging urban and social contexts. Since 1980 MSP has been regularly recognized for its contribution to the field of landscape architecture. The firm has received many international awards, including the ASLA Landmark Award, the British Association of Landscape Industries Regeneration Award, the Chicago Athenaeum Award for Best New Global Design, the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award and the Urban Land Institute Award for Excellence.

The Martha Schwartz Partners team are proud to announce that we'll be collaborating with Zaha Hadid Architects on the competition-winning Napoli Porta Est masterplan — an ambitious and transformative project that will reconnect the eastern area of Naples to the rest of the city. This visionary plan addresses the long-standing isolation of the district, breaking down barriers to establish a more connected, resilient and vibrant urban environment. Congratulations Zaha Hadid Architects, and a huge thank you to the competition organisers, Regione Campania and FS Sistemi Urbani. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dBiAx5Fj https://lnkd.in/dxmHYyFv

At the end of last year, Partner Yiwen Zhang from our Shanghai office led MSP Director Zhou Xiao Gang and Yunting Zhao on a 3-day collaborative trip to Wuhan, visiting several leading urban investment and construction companies, including Hubei Province Planning and Architecture Design Institute and Hubei Urban Investment Corporation. Yiwen showcased our recent projects to the leadership teams of these organizations, while they shared insights into Hubei Province's overall planning and development strategies. We also had engaging discussions on addressing the climate change crisis and promoting green, low-carbon, and sustainable development. We’re thrilled about the opportunity to contribute to Hubei’s planning and landscape design in the future!

On December 12th, the Beijing Municipal Commission of Planning and Natural Resources hosted a series of lectures titled "Building a Wonderful Beijing - Enhancing Urban Design Quality." Our firm's partner from the Shanghai office, Yiwen Zhang, was invited to give a lecture. She introduced our recent projects and discussed how our designs respond to climate change, capital, and culture. She emphasized that the climate emergency presents an opportunity to distribute capital more equally, leveraging our human culture of creative thinking to drive sustainable change. On December 13th, Partner Yiwen Zhang, along with Colvin and Yunting, visited the China Academy of Building Research in Beijing. It was a pleasure to have a friendly conversation with their top leadership, and Yiwen delivered a speech to their planning and architecture design team. We all look forward to collaborating on future projects.

Earlier today, I had the privilege of addressing Israel’s largest engineering convention, speaking to a hall filled with professionals, planners, and leaders shaping the vertical future of our metropolitan centers around the world. I shared our insights on the transformative potential of tall buildings and highlighted Project Vertical – a visionary development of three towers, including a 470-meter mixed-use centerpiece. These towers redefine urban living by creating vibrant vertical communities that seamlessly integrate homes, offices, retail, leisure, and green spaces. This ambitious project would not have been possible without the incredible dedication and collaboration of so many. I want to extend my deepest gratitude to the developers, the city of Ramat Gan, and the team of over 200 architects and engineers who have worked tirelessly, day and night, over the past three years to bring this vision to life. With sustainable design and cutting-edge technology at its core, Project Vertical is a testament to what we can achieve together. Thank you all for being part of this journey. Together, we are shaping the cities of tomorrow! De la Fontaine Architecture D-BLK Architects Israel Canada @BSR David Engineers Ltd. #ThrowbackThursday to 2013 when MSP reinvigorated the landscape surrounding the Vanke Center in Shenzhen, China. The project breathed new life into spaces for both the surrounding neighbourhood and private clientele. MSP’s design concept, called ‘archipelago’, skilfully preserved structural elements beneath a series of mounds, while employing a variety of planting strategies to enrich the landscape across the development. In the office zone, native grasses and evergreen shrubs were added to create a sculptural effect, while the hotel zone featured lush ornamental plantings. Seasonal gardens were introduced to reflect the changing nature of beauty throughout the year, including an outdoor water play area for children, a swimming pool and a spa. Sustainability was at the project’s core, with eco-friendly approaches like storm water management, water cleansing floating islands, native planting and habitat creation integrated into the design. MSP also made extensive use of local and recycled materials. One of the standout features is the urban farm, which not only fosters community engagement but also educates the public on urban ecology and supplies fresh produce to the on-site restaurant. #MSP #LandscapeArchitecture #VankeCenter #China #Sustainability #UrbanDesign

#ThrowbackThursday to 2014 when MSP transformed Fanqi Road into a ‘mountain-like’ streetscape to welcome world leaders to the Asia Pacific Economic Conference. This 340-meter design offers a contemporary twist on a traditional Chinese landscape diorama painting. Tiered stone boxes rise from the road, interwoven with boulders of local rock to represent the layered beauty of natural mountains. Native trees, bamboo, and shrubs add height and depth, while a cascading water feature flows from the central hotel entrance, symbolising vitality and wealth as it travels into the development. This immersive landscape framework seamlessly ties together varied architectural styles, including a Tadao Ando spa hotel. At the hotel’s base, the Shore garden evokes a serene atmosphere with five secluded spa pavilions and a series of sleek water mirrors that appear as one continuous surface. When morning mist rolls in from Yanqi Lake, these mirrors seem to float above the fog, adding to the tranquil, otherworldly feel of the space. #MSP #LandscapeArchitecture #FanqiRoad #Beijing #UrbanDesign
