A New Chapter for the Jennings Way: A Message from Dr. Renée Willis, Executive Director Public education is in a moment of transformation—nationally, statewide, and locally. As educators, leaders, and advocates, we know that the landscape is shifting. The Martha Holden Jennings Foundation must evolve alongside it to remain relevant, efficient, and impactful, while staying true to the vision of our founder. This is why, at the end of this month, we will unveil The New Jennings Way—a strategic shift designed to expand our impact, deepen our partnerships, and better serve Ohio’s educators and students. Our mission remains unchanged, but how we achieve it must adapt to the realities of today’s classrooms and communities. Why the Shift? ?? Ohio’s education landscape is evolving, and we must align with these changes to maximize our effectiveness. ?? The needs of teachers, schools, and students are more complex than ever, requiring innovative solutions. ?? Public education is the foundation of our democracy, serving the majority of students in our state and nation—it must be strengthened, not just sustained. What’s New? Through our strategic planning process, our board has identified three key pillars to guide our future: Advancing Teachers and the Teaching Profession ?? Investing in teacher leadership, professional growth, and retention. ?? Expanding grant opportunities to support innovative classroom practices. ?? Elevating and recognizing outstanding educators. Advancing Public Education ?? Strengthening partnerships that drive student success. ?? Funding evidence-based programs that improve outcomes. ?? Advocating for public education at the state and national levels through philanthropy networks. Advancing Learning ?? Supporting initiatives that foster student creativity, leadership, and engagement. ?? Encouraging innovative instructional approaches. What Stays the Same? ?? Our unwavering commitment to public education. We believe in the power of public schools to serve all students. ?? Our dedication to educators. We will continue to provide grants, partnerships, and recognition for the teaching profession. ?? Our focus on long-term impact. As part of this shift, we are also working to grow our endowment to ensure sustained support for Ohio’s schools. Looking Ahead Change is not just necessary—it is an opportunity. Over the next several years, we will roll out these changes gradually, ensuring transparency and ongoing engagement. At the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation, we believe in the power of public education to shape our future. Public schools educate more students than any other system—because public is for ALL. As we step into this next chapter, we remain committed to supporting the educators and leaders who make Ohio’s public schools strong. We look forward to continuing this journey with you. #MHJF #VisioningForward
