FeedForward vs. Feedback
When you’re driving, do you spend more time looking in the rear-view mirror or through the windshield? The answer is obvious. Yet, in leadership coaching, we often focus too much on the past (feedback) and not enough on the future (FeedForward).
Here’s the difference:
????????????????????focuses on what already happened. While helpful, it often feels critical and can be demotivating.
?? ???????????????????????is about what can happen next. It’s positive, actionable, and future-focused, making it far more effective for growth.
Example:
?? ????????????????:?“You’ve been interrupting people in meetings. It’s frustrating.”
?? ??????????????????????:?“In our next meeting, try pausing to let others finish their thoughts before responding.”
See the difference? One looks backward, the other points the way forward.
?????????????????????? transforms coaching into a motivating, collaborative process.
In?Stakeholder Centered Coaching?, ?????????????????????? is a cornerstone because it empowers leaders to focus on what they can control: their future actions.
