Presenting the ‘Salty Ruibarbo’, the winning cocktail for this year’s Rising Star Competition 2024 in our Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) region, created by John Matthew Palapal, Bartender at The St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort, Abu Dhabi. The Rising Stars Competition is an annual highlight for Marriott bartenders across EMEA. Hosted together with Pernod Ricard, it provides a platform for our best bartenders to showcase their talent. This year, the challenge was to reimagine a drink from the past, with a unique and sustainable twist. The grand finale in Dublin, Ireland, saw nine finalists participate in a series of trainings, masterclasses, and workshops, before competing for the coveted title of The Rising Star. Judges included EMEA President Satya Anand, as well as Arielle Quick (Chief Lodging Services Officer, EMEA), Neal Jones (COO Europe and Africa, EMEA) and Garry Berryman, Head of Global Accounts, Pernod Ricard. Congratulations to John Matthew Palapal and sincere thanks to Pernod Ricard, as well as Lavazza and The London Essence Co.

Marina Hernandez was inspired to join Marriott after hearing guest speakers from the company while in college. The passion showcased by the associates during their visit motivated her to follow in their footsteps. Now, seven years later, Marina is the Director of Marketing at The St. Regis Toronto where, in addition to helping attract guests and enhance the brand’s image, she focuses on having meaningful relationships with her peers and learning from all the different cultures that converge at Marriott, especially through the Associate Resource Groups (ARGs). “Marriott has really made me feel at home by encouraging me to BE myself and share my ideas. I’ve been able to connect with others in ARGs where we share common values and experiences,” she says. “Plus, seeing leaders who look like me shows that there’s room to grow and that my voice matters here.” Learn more about her journey and how she found community and support in the ARGs and beyond, in her own words: https://marr.in/6048UyvFs #beginbelongbecome #beyou #marriottcareers

Finding your place in one of the world's largest companies, such as Marriott, can seem intimidating. But Yuliana, an HR training manager with 13 years of Marriott experience, has found her place and wants to share how. “I know that there are tons of talented people who struggle like I did to find a place or to grow. When I joined the Hispanic Associate Resource Group (ARG), I found the perfect community to meet more Hispanics like me who are working towards opening doors to more Hispanic people. I love how we can share and collaborate with all nationalities, so everyone gets to know a little bit more about who we are and what we have to offer.” Yuliana values diversity in the workplace and joined Marriott in 2011 as a food runner at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront. She has since held various roles and is now the HR Training Manager at the JW Marriott Washington, DC. Learn more about how this ambitious globe-trotter (she has visited 23 countries and counting) found a sense of community and belonging at Marriott: https://marr.in/6047UD2uT #beginbelongbecome #beyou #marriottcareers

In Mexico, and particularly in San José del Cabo, food means love, tradition, and family. And for Juan, a Chef at Zadún, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, it was his family who taught him a love for cooking and a passion for honoring his ancestors’ ingredients. “My first steps in my culinary career were in a bakery where my dad taught me the art of making bread,” Juan says. “My grandma taught me the humility in traditional flavors and the love for cooking. [Cooking for them] was almost like a ritual.” Even though Juan's original dream was to be a soccer player, his journey led to him taking the reins at El Barrio, a Mexican street-food-inspired restaurant. Learn more about Juan's journey from the soccer field to the kitchens of Zadún and how he makes his platillos (traditional Mexican dishes) “with a sense of purpose." https://marr.in/6047U8y2t #beginbelongbecome #beyou #marriottcareers #HHM2024 #HHM24

At Marriott, we’re committed to the well-being of our associates. We are proud to have been recognized as one of the top companies on Indeed's 2024 Work Wellbeing 100 list. This underscores the importance of our TakeCare program, which focuses on our associates' physical, mental, and financial health. Through programs like TakeCare, associates such as Jesus, Guest Experience Expert at JW Marriott Panama, have been able to prioritize their health and that of their colleagues. "TakeCare believes in nurturing all aspects of our health, including mental and emotional well-being, career development, and financial planning. These programs are designed to improve our physical health and help us maintain a blend between work and personal life, which is essential for our overall wellness. By prioritizing these activities, we can keep our health top of mind and make conscious decisions that contribute to our long-term wellness." Jesus has been with Marriott for five years and is a long-distance trail runner, so it's no surprise that his favorite TakeCare activations are related to physical performance, like races and cycling events. These challenge him physically but also allow him to disconnect, which he says "… is key to maintaining my mental and emotional health." We're hiring if you want to work for a company that prioritizes your health while letting you lean into your passions. When we say "people," we mean everyone, including those with different abilities. Our commitment to inclusivity has been consistently recognized by organizations like Great Place to Work and the American Association of People with Disabilities. This year, we launched our People with Disabilities Associate Resource Group (ARG) at Marriott. The group is led by a team of passionate associates dedicated to celebrating people of all abilities.
