"Any federal dollars to support nursing capacity is appreciated, but it's a small Band-Aid on a bigger problem," says Phil Fogg, CEO of Marquis Companies. The federal government's announcement of $19 million in funding for nurse training is a step toward addressing staffing shortages, but it may not be enough to restore long-term care facilities to their pre-pandemic levels. Fogg emphasizes that "a real solution would evaluate the necessary RN capacity over the next 10 years and...create a national plan to support the need." He suggests strategies like increased federal funding for community colleges, trade schools, and universities, as well as removing regulatory barriers that hinder the creation of new RNs. ??
