Yesterday was Opening Day for Major League Baseball. How did your team do? I repurposed some vintage art elements that were available in the public domain. I got excited when I figured out that my finished work of art does not have to be confined to the one medium in which it was created. As I explored the possibilities, it provided more opportunities to reach a broader audience and expand my personal art brand. My best example is this Brooklyn Bridge drawing created on a digital tablet. Leveraging digital art technology and print-on-demand outsourcing, I've been able to "recycle" this creation onto clothing, wall art, notebooks, and even kitchen tools! "Art therapy is founded on the assumption that everyone is creative and capable of self-expression." I am a firm believer in this quote. I often cringe when people tell me they can't even draw a stick figure (you would not believe how often I hear that!). To me, that is a denial of one's creativity and innate talent. It's not just about the stick figure, but rather the unique, creative thing that a person CAN do. Perhaps they just don't know what that is yet. Back to this article...I first heard the term "art therapy" within the last decade but I'm a believer. I think art has helped me over the years in more ways than I ever knew in dealing with stress and other life challenges that I've faced. Enjoy the read, and please share! I often think about how art complements art, and how that combination essentially creates another "work" of art. The Chicago Skyline print shown here is my creation, and I selected this photograph (artist unknown) for the mockup to promote my work. I was drawn to it because of how well the decor of this dining room complements it, not only because of the color but also the modern feel that you would expect with a skyline image.
