Our Omron Automation Sales Combine, put on by the Marquette University Center for Professional Selling, saw more than 35 students complete sales role-playing interactions for our panel of judges. The College of Nursing has received a $1.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to support an expansion of its simulation center and equipment investment. The funds provided for the Health Education and Retention Optimization through Equipment and Simulation (HEROES) project will enable the college to address a nursing shortage in Wisconsin and across the nation by meeting its goal of preparing 5,000 entry level nurses to enter the workforce in the next decade. https://lnkd.in/gMWqCasP

The Commitment to the Profession ceremony is one of the high points of every school year. Every student at this ceremony knows how difficult the life of a professional nurse can be, and yet they often choose it not in spite of these challenges, but because of them. Marquette Nurses are motivated by a desire to drive positive change: for their patients, for their communities and for the profession. They have a view of health that expands far beyond the hospital. To them, obstacles are opportunities: to improve, to overcome and to create lasting impact. It is always uplifting when the next class of future Marquette Nurses affirms this mission. This ceremony is a way for them to collectively take that mantle, as previous generations have done. We as educators equally commit to them, to ensure they can truly Be the Difference.

In addition to our general ranking, Marquette Business received strong U.S. News & World Report placements in the following areas: - Finance (19) - Supply Chain (20) - Accounting (36) These programs have consistently achieved strong results in undergraduate rankings and are part of what makes Marquette University a leader in business education.

In my research group at Marquette University, we develop engine technologies to reduce carbon emissions from heavy-duty off-road vehicles. This sector is very challenging to decarbonize with battery electric or fuel cell electric powertrains due to the harsh environments, high power output, and long operating periods. So, we are taking a pragmatic approach to decarbonization by changing the fuel from fossil diesel - to something that has much lower lifecycle carbon emissions, like ethanol, methanol, natural gas, propane, and even hydrogen or ammonia. These fuels are very challenging to use in compression ignition applications - and that is where we come in! We are developing ignition assistance technologies and operating strategies for traditional diesel engines to use low carbon, hard-to-ignite fuels. Today, Marquette University’s Graduate School announced the news that we’ve received a $75,000 planning grant from Serve Wisconsin, the state’s AmeriCorps affiliate, to develop a new AmeriCorps program dedicated to establishing a first of its kind graduate student membership program for graduate students enrolled at the university. Our planning grant team (including Scott D'Urso, Alisha Klapps Balistreri, and Lizzie Kerrick, Ed.D., and Karolyn B.) are committed to co-designing this future program grant with Milwaukee’s community nonprofits to address and define with them the needs that will be met by this membership intervention. For those of us working to reimagine the future of graduate training and research, I firmly believe AmeriCorps membership models offer one sustainable pathway for our efforts. It also alllows space for graduate students to apply their research in the world in a mutually beneficial way. To learn more about our efforts, please read the press release published today.
