I invested in a career coach years ago because I was lost. I had already been a TV news reporter and had transitioned to being an entertainment lawyer. But I was bored. I wanted out, but I had no idea what I wanted to do. So, I hired a coach. Money was tight back and it was a HUGE investment. The coach taught me how to figure out what I wanted to do, not just what I could do… After going through his process, I decided to pursue being an HR business partner. And that led me to becoming certified in coaching and HR. ????I soon secured an HR business partner role working with C-level executives and their teams. ??I loved it, but when I examined all the parts of the job, I realized I loved coaching more than anything else. ??I had found my passion, and finally aligned my values to my career. ??It led me to fulfillment in my life.     When people are fired or laid off- do you feel awkward reaching out to them? This picture is the result of someone who put their own awkwarnesss aside and believed in the power of empathy. I met Marcella Raymond when we were both working in TV news in Dayton, Ohio. We worked opposite shifts. She was the morning anchor. I was an afternoon/ evening reporter. So we didn’t know each other well and weren’t even “work friends.” Then one day I was fired. Gone. Out the door. Marcella called me and said, “Do you want to grab a cup of coffee?” We did. She didn’t ask me what happened. She didn’t want the “gossip” around it. She merely listened and helped me move forward. Now, nearly 30 years later we remain friends and she is the first person I call anytime I’m in Chicago. We’re both out of the TV news business but still support each other through life and work. So the next time someone is fired or laid off- if you care at all, reach out and just be there. And for those who are wondering- there are no laws or HR policies that stop you from being human. #fired #layoff #friendship #empathy

    Here it is...28% of Americans are looking for a new job, according to The Federal Reserve. Some are unemployed arleady. Some are employed, but concerned about losing their jobs, and others simply aren't fulfilled. Further, Job Satisfaction continues to deteriorate. Satisfaction is meeting of expectations, needs and desires. It's immediate and may be temporary. That is why satisfaction fluctuates so much. Contrary to satisfaction, fulfillment is something more profoud. It's a deep sense of purpose or meaning with alignment to your values, passions and aspirations. Fulfillment is long lasting. If employers focused on fulfillment and not satisfaction, perhaps they wouldn't see so much attrition and lack of engagement. Just sayin... Full study: https://lnkd.in/gFcHtC4A

    ?? Every day I receive inbox messages, "We can help scale your business!" or "We can help you automate your emails!" or "We can screen potential clients for leads!" or "We can generate 100 client leads in 30 days!" ??♀?That's great for some coaches but what I have always known about myself is that I need to be authentic and live my values. That means three main things: ??I meet with potential clients myself. They are not "screened" by someone who doesn't know whether I can truly help them. That initial conversation is where the magic happens, or doesn't happen. Either way, I will only feel good if I am in the converation. ??I don't want to "scale" my business. I bring great value to those who hire me and not work 80 hour weeks. That is not what my life is about. My life is about helping people but that doesn't mean bringing in "as many clients as possible." The financial aspect supports my family, but I will never compromise on taking more clients than I can help at one time just to make more $$. ??I must provide direct service to my clients without handing them off to someone else. That also means I write every follow up email or provide the next information that my clients need to move through their process. This cannot be automated because each person is unique and they are not robots. While some of my core messages may be the same, the personal touch and thought process I put into each communication is what matters to me and to them. ??♀?That's who I am. That's what I'm about. ??♀?So no thank you to all the vendors out there trying to "help" me without knowing me. That "help" would be inauthentic to my true values. ??I appreciate the reach out, but I'll just be me, over here, fulfilled and happy from making a difference in people's lives.
