Marketplace.city recently participated in our first ICMA - International City/County Management Association Reimaging Local Government Conference. Great to see some friendly faces there Eyal Feder-Levy Bratton Riley Hillary Orr David Graham and others and make some new friends in city management circles. Even better to participate in the Colorado Smart Cities Alliance monthly networking thanks to Tyler Svitak and Chelsea Barrett while in Denver. This event demonstrates the impact that technology and innovation can have with with those in leadership positions in local government, not just the innovation or IT teams. Taking a step back from bleeding edge and emerging technologies and just looking at the day-to-day grind of running local government, technology and of course AI can make an immediate impact by reducing the time it takes to make decisions, complete redundant mundane tasks, conduct research, scale citizen engagement and so much more. We are in a DOGE-ist fiscal and economic environment, but technology should be seen as cost savings, not a cost center. It enables the staff you have to be more productive in the workday and not take work home or burn out, it closes the gaps in the services that citizens need and expect from their governments. I am excited to see what this new breed of city managers, department heads, and deputies bring to this industry, many of the folks I met in leaderships roles now are digital natives and finally in a position to do something about it.
