In this WEEK’S COMMODITY SUMMARY 2/10/2025 written by John Barone, President of Market Vision, Inc. he summarizes by stating: 2/10 – U.S. milk production was down 0.5% vs a year ago in Dec, following a 0.4% decline in Nov. Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in California dairy cows is the main reason. Milk output in CA (20% of total U.S.) was down 8% in Nov/Dec vs a year ago. HPAI reduces a cow’s ability to produce milk - and milk from cows with HPAI must be taken off the market. As a result, CA cheese production dropped 3.3% in Nov and was down 2.3% in Dec vs 2023. CA butter output was down 13.2% in Nov/Dec. But the rest of the country is compensating with overall U.S. cheese output down just 0.7% in Dec and butter output up 2.3%. California should be fully recovered from HPAI-related dairy losses by March. CME block cheese closed at $1.86/lb on Friday (2/7). Block prices are averaging $1.88/lb ytd in 2025, up sharply from $1.54 in 2024. Conversely, butter at $2.38/lb (2/7) is averaging $2.51 ytd, down from $2.65 in 2024. ➡️https://lnkd.in/dJFau4hP John Barone Janet Cohen Joan Axelrod Siegelwax Kim Romola #marketvision #mvconnect #johnbarone #johnbaronereport #supplychaincommunity DON'T GET LEFT OUT IN THE COLD!! ❄️ 🥶 🧊 Register TODAY 4️⃣ The Spring Market Vision, Inc. In this WEEK’S COMMODITY SUMMARY 1/27/2025 written by John Barone, President of Market Vision, Inc. he summarizes by stating: 2/3 - On Saturday, Feb 1, President Trump slapped 25% tariffs on Mexican and Canadian imports. The most immediate effect on the restaurant industry, particularly at this time of year, will be on fruits and vegetables. The U.S. imported an estimated $22B+ in produce from Mexico last year. Tomatoes, avocados, cucumbers (pickles), jalapenos, bell peppers, and limes could present some of the biggest immediate cost issues. On the protein side, the U.S. is a big importer of Mexican feeder cattle, but those had already been halted on 11/25/24 due to “new world screwworm”. As a result, the U.S. is short roughly 300,000 feeder imports. Regarding pork, Canada sent 5M+ feeder pigs to U.S. pork producers (duty free) in 2024. Conversely, Mexico bought roughly 10% of all U.S. pork output in 2024. Loss of Mexican pork exports more than offset Canadian pig imports and the net effect will likely be weaker prices on certain pork product categories. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e-zCfxpm John Barone Janet Cohen Joan Axelrod Siegelwax Kim Romola #marketvision #mvconnect #johnbarone #johnbaronereport #supplychaincommunity DON'T GET LEFT OUT IN THE COLD!! ❄️ 🥶 🧊 Register TODAY 4️⃣ The Spring Market Vision Conference March 26-28, 2025, in Palm Desert, CA! 👏 😊 🌞🌴 😎 ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eE-TYVQx Get our Special Winter Special Rates while there still 🥵 😰 "HOT" 🥵 😰 Find out 4️⃣ yourself WHY one Supply Chain Pro says "Market Vision is a ONE STOP SHOP, you have Operators, you have Suppliers, and you have Distributor Partners! In this WEEK’S COMMODITY SUMMARY 1/27/2025 written by John Barone, President of Market Vision, Inc. he summarizes by stating: 1/27 - In Friday’s cattle report, the USDA said feedlot inventories on Jan 1st were 11.82M head, down 0.9% from a year ago. New placements onto feedlots in Dec were down 3.7%. Mexican feeder cattle imports were halted on 11/25/24 due to “new world screwworm.” The situation remains unresolved, which will leave the U.S. short roughly 300,000 feeders by Feb 1. In Jan’s WASDE, the USDA projected that beef output increased by 0.1% in 2024. That’s a remarkable improvement from the USDA’s mid-year forecast for a 4.8% production decline. However, the USDA is still projecting a 4.4% decline in beef output for 2025. The USDA says cattle prices averaged a record-high $187.12/cwt in 2024 and are projected even higher at $196.00/cwt in 2025. On the positive side, the percentage of heifers on feed are down 3.4% from a year ago, possibly a first hint that producers may finally be retaining more breeders for herd expansion. ➡️ 01/27 - In Friday’s cattle report, the USDA said feedlot inventories on Jan 1st were 11.82M head, down 0.9% from a year ago. In this WEEK’S COMMODITY SUMMARY 1/13/2025 written by John Barone, President of Market Vision, Inc.. he summarizes by stating: 1/13 - Avian flu appears to be rampant this winter. From a state of emergency in California (before the fires), to a reemergence in the Midwest in December, to new east coast outbreaks in North Carolina and Delaware, every flyway in the country is transporting Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza or HPAI via wild bird migration. The egg industry is by-far the most affected. According to the CDC’s database, the U.S. has lost 23.6M commercial table egg layers over the past 3 months, 10.2M of them in California. According to the USDA, there were 312M table egg layers in the U.S. on Nov 1, 2024 – so we’ve lost over 7% of the flock so far this winter. The USDA benchmark NY large shell egg market was $6.23 per dozen on Friday (1/10), up from $1.95 a year ago. The USDA California large shell egg market is $8.97 per dozen – or a hard-to-believe $.75 per egg! Flock losses are likely to continue through spring. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e-2rFnWf John Barone Janet Cohen Joan Axelrod Siegelwax Kim Romola #marketvision #mvconnect #johnbarone #johnbaronereports #supplychaincommunity DON'T GET LEFT OUT IN THE COLD!! ❄️ 🥶 😰 🧊 Register TODAY 4️⃣ The Spring Market Vision Conference March 26-28, 2025, in Palm Desert, CA! 👏 😊 🌞🌴 😎 ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eE-TYVQx Are you a qualified multi-unit chain operator? In this WEEK’S COMMODITY SUMMARY 1/6/2025 written by John Barone, President of Market Vision, Inc.. he summarizes by stating: 1/6/2025 - In its quarterly report on 12/23/24, the USDA said that total U.S. inventories of hogs && pigs on Dec 1st (75.8M head) were 0.5% above a year ago. Market-ready hogs were also up 0.5% and the breeding herd was marginally (0.1%) higher. The number of pigs per liter for the Sep-Nov quarter were record-high at 11.92, up 2.3% from a year earlier. Farrowing intentions for the next half-year (Dec- May) are up 1.3%. The combo of pigs per litter and farrowing intentions point to the potential for modest herd growth in 2025. Also bearish for prices is the fact that Mexico accounts for 40% of U.S. pork exports. Currently, we can only guess at how the North American tariff situation might play out. But retaliatory tariffs from Mexico would slow U.S. exports and put a dent in domestic pork prices. Lean hog futures are $80.77/cwt (1/3) vs $65.30 a year ago – and forward futures for 2025 are averaging $88.46 vs $84.95/cwt in 2024. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eGnjjj5r John Barone Janet Cohen Joan Axelrod Siegelwax Kim Romola #marketvision #mvconnect #johnbarone #johnbaronereports #supplychaincommunity DON'T GET LEFT OUT IN THE COLD!! ❄️ 🥶 😰 🧊 Register TODAY 4️⃣ The Spring Market Vision Conference March 26-28, 2025, in Palm Desert, CA! 👏 😊 🌞🌴 😎 ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eE-TYVQx Are you a qualified multi-unit chain operator? In this WEEK’S COMMODITY SUMMARY 12/30/2024 written by John Barone, President of Market Vision, Inc.. he summarizes by stating: 12/30 - 12/30 -‘Twas the night after Christmas, and down at Mar-a-Lago, the Donald was scarfing Big Macs and gelato. Vendettas were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that indictments soon would be there. When up on the roof there was such a clatter, he sent Elon up to see what was the matter. When what to his wondering eyes should appear, ‘twas Santa, Mrs. Claus, and a sleigh full of MAGA gear. Christmas is over; we needed a break; we’re here for the circus; we’d like to partake. The elves are escaping, they’re crossing your border. So please send them back and restore us to order. Now Marco, now Hegseth, now Ratcliff and Bondi! On Mahmet, on Herschel, on Robert and Tulsi! Then up and away, to the White House they flew; Santa, the Trumps, and a Musketeer or two. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/expudvvj Happy New Year from John Barone and the Market Vision, Inc.
