Our Mission: Grounded in Islamic traditions, Maristan aims to lead professional clinical care, education, and research in advancing holistic, mental and spiritual wellness. Maristan is a zakat-eligible 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with federal tax ID: 87-1035868 Our Vision: Maristan strives to revive the Islamic legacy of research and education that informs holistic healing and provides culturally and spiritually congruent, professional, accessible, and affordable mental health care for all. Maristan Today: Our online clinical, educational, and research-based Maristan initiative was inspired by the historical function of traditional Maristans. Our goal is to revive the Islamic traditional function of Maristans with research and education, stemming from the work of the Stanford Muslim Mental Health & Islamic Psychology Lab, to inform holistic healing for our clients and provide culturally and spiritually congruent, professional, accessible, affordable mental health care for all.

    We are excited to share that an upcoming publication in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health will feature insights from Maristan’s Afghan Refugee Support Initiative (ARSI) Program!??Titled "The Power of the Collective: Co-Designing Trauma-Informed Culturally Centered Care to Address Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) for Refugee and Immigrant Families," this paper highlights the importance of culturally responsive, trauma-informed care and community building for refugee and immigrant communities.??Maristan’s Ariana Aini, ARSI Program Officer, shares:?"I'm so happy that our work is being recognized and this specific topic I'm so passionate about. We need more of these discussions and publications not just for Afghan refugees but all refugees who come to America."??Alhamdulillah, We are proud to see Maristan’s ARSI program reflected in this work, with contributions from Maristan’s Ariana Aini and former team member, Sara Mostafavi.?
