Mariner Strategies couldn't be happier to welcome William Chanes Martinez as an Associate! Willy is a seasoned privacy professional who got his start clerking for a judge on the NJ State Supreme Court. He has previously advised clients on developing and enhancing privacy compliance programs, drafting policies to comply with various privacy regimes, and supported clients in cyber incident response. At Mariner, we want to make sure our clients understand not only the political realities of emerging technology legislation, but also the compliance obligations being proposed. Willy will be an invaluable part of providing that perspective.

We work with Fortune 50 companies and young entities alike to help each client meet their needs in a demanding, fast-paced environment. We are looking for an associate who is willing to work very hard for a diverse and interesting group of clients on emerging technology regulation, with a particular emphasis on state privacy legislation. ? Associate This position can be located remotely within the United States, within a reasonable distance to a major airport.?The position Is a full-time, salaried position.? Duties & Responsibilities ·??????Draft legislative testimony ·??????Draft amendments to state legislation ·??????Meet with legislators as subject matter expert ·??????Register as state lobbyist as necessary ·??????Represent clients in external stakeholder meetings ·??????Testify at state legislative and regulatory hearings ·??????Track, analyze, and report on relevant state legislation to clients ·??????Communicate frequently and professionally with clients ·??????Travel as necessary, including on short notice, approximately 20%-30% of time within U.S. Skills & Educational Requirements ·??????JD from ABA-accredited law school ·??????At least 3-5 years of legal and/or public policy experience ·??????Current bar admission in US state jurisdiction ·??????Understanding of legislative process ·??????Experience with a trade association ·??????Superior written and oral communication skills ·??????Attention to detail and willingness to learn new subject matter ·??????Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment ·??????Strong project management, time management, and organizational skills ·??????Commitment to excellence in all facets of role ?
