Now that the leg work has been done I’m super excited to officially announce that Dr. Michael Woodward will be reading to the children of the Marjorie S. Fisher Boys & Girls Club on 4 April 2025. It takes a village to help a child in need flourish. You are an important part of OUR village here at Toys for Tots. Another member of our village is former pro athlete, Chris Singleton. Chris was inspired by the love his mother showed him and everyone she met. When he lost her suddenly, he felt compelled to share her message of acceptance with the world. Last year, Chris traveled across his home state of South Carolina, stopping at Title I funded schools to read to students from his latest book, “Different: A Story About Loving Your Neighbor.” On his tour, Chris says, “I realized a lot of kids are struggling in school, and it comes right back to reading. I’ve personally seen the impact that literacy makes — and I’m so grateful that Toys for Tots sees that impact as well.” While Chris raises awareness about our Literacy Program, friends like you sustain it through your generous support. Together, we have built a village that not only empowers disadvantaged girls and boys but also helps prevent poverty from stealing their futures. Chris said it best: “It comes right back to reading.” Literacy IS the key to unlocking a child’s success, both in the classroom and in life. For Women's History Month, we're spotlighting the people and causes that are important to us. Deven Woods, senior marketing manager and United States Marine Corps veteran, shared her story and personal connection to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. ? "In the late 1990s, I served in an infantry unit where Toys for Tots was a huge deal. This was the time of year that brought out the softer side of even the toughest Marines. I loved the idea of walking around with teddy bears and toy trucks, while having the kinds of chats that only Marines have." ? The fires in California left a devastating mark on thousands of families who now face the daunting challenge of rebuilding their lives and finding some sense of normalcy.? We understand that tragedies like these are especially difficult for the youngest victims. That’s why we partner with organizations to provide comprehensive support when communities need it most.? ?In collaboration with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, we brought much-needed rays of hope to families in need through a special disaster response and recovery distribution event.? Toys for Tots provided 3,000 toys to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, which were distributed to 1,000 children and their families during the event, alongside essential food and water supplies.? During the event, Marines connected with the children, engaging them in fun activities and helping to foster moments of joy and hope amid such uncertainty.? We are deeply grateful for these partnerships, which allow us to expand our reach and help even more children in need –– especially during times when hope is needed most.??
