Last week I had the opportunity to tag along with the Marine Industries Association of South Florida on a boat trip down the New River! We joined Janet Zimmerman and the Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND) team along with the outgoing FIND Commissioner, Frank Gernert, and the new FIND commissioner for Fort Lauderdale, Richard Waltzer. The biggest highlight for me was seeing the first phase of the New River Middle School Living Shoreline Project (Broward County Public Schools) get underway! It was a proud moment for me, as I was a huge part of this project almost six years ago when it was just an idea. ?????? Thanks Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission for funding Phase 1 and all the hard work of your team from day one! This project is just starting to break ground and needs more support to complete the next phases including: outdoor classroom, lagoon, and docks! I am also hopeful that we can see some pilots for Marine Research Hub of South Florida startups in this space for education & validation! This is just the start of big impacts for our community! ?? Along with the trip was also representatives from FDOT, the US Coast Guard, and the City of Fort Lauderdale.
