?? Mission MCM: 16-Week Countdown: Tip #15- Make a Transportation and Link-Up Plan for Race Day Minimize the opportunity for needless pre-race stress and post-race discomfort from extra walking on very sore legs by heeding the race start and finish area instructions, studying start and finish area maps, and consulting with your support team of friends and family members. Ensure your Metro, Uber or car route facilitates an efficient ingress to the start area and an equally smooth support team link up and egress from the finish area. The start and finish areas of a major marathon have the population of a small city compressed into the space of a town square, making it a challenge to get anywhere quickly, so leave yourself plenty of time, particularly for that race morning rite of passage, the wait in line for the port-a-john. Even if you frequent the site on non-race days, many of the usual access points will be restricted for the purpose of crowd control and public safety. Additionally, start and finish area layouts are adjusted from year to year for a host of reasons, so even seasoned marathoners need to be attentive to planning in this area. Also check the weather forecast and ensure you have the hydration, nourishment, and clothing essentials to be comfortable and prepared once you make your move to the start area, as well as after you finish. Lastly, familiarize yourself with race day instructions for the "bag check" storage of your personal gear while you run. #RunWithTheMarines #MCMTraining #MarathonTrainingWeek15

  • ?? Mission MCM: 16-Week Countdown: Tip #14-Rehearse Your Race Make your last long training run a rehearsal for marathon success (but don't run farther than your workout plan prescribes). Find a route that approximates the same terrain as the race, wear the same clothes and shoes as you plan to wear in competition, and start your run at the same time of day as the race starts. During the run, consume the same fluid replacement/electrolyte beverage and energy gel or other form of sports nutrition you plan to use in the race. Get a good night's rest beforehand and eat the same foods you plan to consume in the lead up to your race (there's no need to "carbo-load," just take in the normal quantities of food necessary to satisfy your appetite and a little more water than usual, but don't "super hydrate" either). In most cases, the last long run in your training plan will be between 17 and 22 miles, run it the way you plan the early stages of your race to unfold and think about how strong you feel and all the hard work you’ve invested to achieve such endurance. This run should be a consistent quality effort, but don't go "too deep in the well," save your maximum performance mode for when it counts. When you finish the run, you should feel like you worked hard but could have gone farther and faster. Above all, ensure you note any lessons learned related to digestion, hydration, blisters or chaffing, and adjust accordingly. #RunWithTheMarines #MCMTraining #MarathonTrainingWeek14

  • ?? Mission MCM: 16-Week Countdown: Tip #13- Review the highlights of your run log regularly (see training tip #4) Nothing builds confidence and racing motivation like reviewing a chronological account of your dedication, self-discipline, and increasing ability. If you’ve stuck to your training plan and consistently recorded the basic facts of each workout in your run log, you’ll have the evidence to prove you can go the marathon distance and will find yourself looking forward to the big day with eager anticipation. #RunWithTheMarines #MarathonTraining #MCMTraining

  • The USAF Heritage Memorial to Memorial (M2M) Bicycle Ride is an annual four-day event covering the 340 miles between the Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kitty Hawk, NC, and the United States Air Force Memorial in Arlington, VA. The M2M is a celebration of USAF heritage, physical fitness, military service, and support for our combat wounded, ill and injured service members. At the conclusion of the 2024 ride on Sunday, 9/15, a new M2M & MCM Challenge Coin was presented to the 22 riders who have also completed the Marine Corps Marathon, with 7 more looking to earn the distinction at the 49th MCM on Sunday, 10/27. As a sure sign of an instant tradition, the first to receive the coin was CSAF#21, General Dave Goldfine, USAF (Ret). The M2M is organized by the Air Force Cycling Team (AFCT) along with its mission partners, the Air and Space Forces Association (AFA) and the Air Force Recruiting Service (AFRS). The 2025 M2M will take place from 9/18-21 and registration will open in January.
