An important look at the history of school desegregation in the Sausalito Marin City District — proof that progress is possible, but also a reminder that the work of educational equity is never done. Grateful for the efforts of those who fought for integration and for those who continue to advocate for fair, high-quality education for all. Thank you Kirsten Jones Neff for writing this important piece. We hope to see you at our event next week! #MarinMagazine #EducationEquity
Kudos to Kirsten Jones Neff for penning this article on the desegregation efforts of the Sausalito Marin City School District - "Today Dr. MLK Jr. Academy is perhaps the most socioeconomically, culturally and ethnically diverse campus in the county, and everyone involved — from Superintendent LaResha Huffman to administrators, teachers, parents and educational support staff — seems optimistic about what the future holds. Make that?cautiously?optimistic. It’s as if everybody in the communities the school serves, especially those from Marin City, are holding their breath… acknowledging the positive direction of the school, but not daring to hope." Next week we are hosting an event to show a 1968 BBC Documentary on Marin City's desegregation efforts in the sixties.... Kirsten will lead a panel discussion and we will all learn more about the the past, present and hopeful future of these efforts.
