The discussions focused on strengthening the delivery of contraceptive services and sexual & reproductive health (SRH) to ensure quality care for all. A highlight of the event was the awards ceremony, recognizing outstanding healthcare providers and facilities committed to delivering high-quality SRH services. Together, we continue to champion accessible and quality healthcare for communities.

MarieStopesKenya_KE has donated medical training equipment, including the Mama-U and Sister-U models, to strengthen reproductive health training in Bungoma County. These essential tools will enhance capacity-building sessions for healthcare providers, enabling them to improve service provision in sexual and reproductive health (SRH). Mama-U, a postpartum uterus model, supports training in postpartum intrauterine device (IUD) insertion, uterine balloon tamponade, and other critical postpartum interventions. Sister-U, a multi-uterus trainer, facilitates various reproductive health procedures, including vaginal examinations, IUD insertion and removal, and menstrual hygiene counseling. Healthcare providers will use these training models to gain hands-on experience, ultimately improving maternal and reproductive health outcomes in Bungoma County.

The event brought together key stakeholders, including policymakers, government officials, academia, the private sector, and civil society organizations, fostering critical discussions on population development and related issues. The conference served as a strategic platform for dialogue on Kenya’s progress in implementing the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) Programme of Action, specifically focusing on the ICPD25 commitments. Among these commitments is the critical goal of ensuring universal access to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), a core area of MarieStopesKenya_KE's work. The conference underscored the importance of multi-sectoral collaboration in addressing population challenges, including maternal health, gender equality, and sustainable development. In Nyeri County, we were honored to host Deputy Governor Waruwe Kinaneyere at our booth, where he expressed his appreciation for the impactful work MSI Kenya is doing to improve access to SRH services. We also engaged communities in Homa Bay and several other counties, advocating for women’s health, rights, and empowerment. MarieStopesKenya_KE presented cheques to Lioness BCRH and Yefwe Kabula, two youth groups dedicated to economic empowerment and sexual and reproductive health (SRHR) advocacy. Through the Start Small Project, members of the groups have received business training, equipping them with skills to sustain themselves financially while also promoting contraceptive services and SRHR awareness among their peers. The two groups will now launch poultry and pig farming ventures, creating sustainable livelihoods while strengthening access to essential health services. By empowering young people with economic opportunities and SRHR resources, we are building a future where they can thrive. Congratulations to Lioness BCRH and Yefwe Kabula! Our Communications Manager, Mark O. is currently representing MSI Reproductive Choices at the ASAP 2025, Convening in Bangkok, Thailand organized by Asia Safe Abortion Partnership.
