??Exciting Progress at the MARCLAIMED EU's Comporta Demo Site! Our monitoring efforts are advancing! New measurement points have been established across Infiltration Basins 1, 2, and 4, using a Volumetric Water Content TDR probe to assess infiltration efficiency and water retention. ?? ?? With distinct reactive layers, including Biochar and Granular Activated Carbon (GAC), our partners from LNEC and AgdA- águas Públicas do Alentejo, S.A. are gaining valuable insights into MAR system performance. ??A huge milestone: The 3rd sampling campaign is complete! ?? Last week, our Fresh-Thoughts team traveled to Lisbon for the annual MARCLAIMED EU project meeting. In addition to lively discussions and updates from our partners, we had the chance to visit the wastewater treatment plant in Comporta – one of the project’s case studies. As part of our field trip, we participated in a stakeholder workshop showing us the importance of stakeholder engagement to build trust in new innovations and identify needs and barriers. ?? It was a fantastic opportunity to see Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) in action and deepen our knowledge in practice. The area around Comporta features beautiful landscapes and wetland ecosystems – a powerful reminder of why our work in protecting water resources is so crucial. ? ?? ?Wrapping up the MARCLAIMED EU General Assembly in Lisbon! ?From February 11-13, the MARCLAIMED EU partners gathered in Lisbon, Portugal, to advance our collaboration in achieving the project's objectives and goals. The first day covered key project updates, addressing challenges, and shaping the next steps. ??The second day of the meeting featured the demo case presentations, where partners shared results and collaborated on overcoming site-specific bottlenecks. ??A special moment was the field visit to the AdP - águas de Portugal Comporta’s Wastewater Treatment Plant, offering a first-hand look at innovative solutions for storing water. This facility safely discharges treated wastewater, using compost layers for purification. MARCLAIMED EU installed a reactive organic layer to monitor improvements. ??The last day concluded with an engaging #stakeholder meeting to discuss the advantages and potential challenges of MAR with alternative water resources (AWR). ??As we head home, we extend our sincere gratitude to the LNEC team for their outstanding organization of this fantastic meeting.
