Our Executive Director and The Muffin Shop were featured on WBZ yesterday talking about (and baking) Marblehead's iconic Joe Frogger cookies. Perfected in the early 19th century by locally-renowned Black baker, Lucretia Brown, the molasses cookies were likely named about her husband, Revolutionary War veteran, tavern keeper, and formerly enslaved man of both African and Indigenous descent, Joseph Brown. 关于我们
Marblehead Museum is here to preserve, protect, and promote Marblehead's past as a means of enriching the present. The Museum welcomes people of all ages to discover what makes Marblehead extraordinary through innovative learning opportunities. The Museum's preeminent collection serves as the catalyst for exhibits, programs, lectures, and activities that connect individuals to the past and present, broadening their perspectives and knowledge of the wider world. We are always looking for enthusiastic individuals to help with programming and volunteer opportunities at any of our three locations: The J.O.J Frost Gallery and Education Center, The G.A.R. and Civil War Museum, or the Jeremiah Lee Mansion. All three properties are owned by the Marblehead Museum and provide unique opportunities to learn about Marblehead's, and our nation's, history.

It’s been a busy but rewarding few weeks for our Executive Director, Lauren McCormack. She presented two session about aspects of the Jeremiah Lee Brick Kitchen & Slave Quarters project at Preservation Massachusetts’ conference and then at the National Slave Dwelling Conference in Philadelphia with Kristin Gallas of Muse Consulting, our Project Consultant.

It's insulation day at the Jeremiah Lee Brick Kitchen! Modern spray foam is the most energy-efficient option to insulate our roof. However, when preserving an historic building, you never want to do anything that is irreversible or hides forever the original features. So, we took great care to wrap the 1768 roofing timbers before insulating so, if future generations want to reveal and study the original timbers, they can pull the wrap and insulation right off. This work is generously funded by a Save America's Treasures grant from the National Park Service and many generous donations by the community. Thanks to the crew of Joel White Construction, Inc. and our architect, Bruce Greenwald, for coming up with this ingenious solution.
