Here’s the scoop: after chatting with our guides for a month, we decided to shake things up. Why not confirm every departure right from the start? So, that’s exactly what we're doing now. ?? The guides are totally on board with this change. They’re stoked to be part of this bold move. And guess what? Bookings have skyrocketed by over 500% since we started this (it looks like you are loving this change as much as we hoped for) ?? Fourth post of the series! Today's post is peculiar. It is not about lessons learned or reflections, but about an actual experiment we started at the beginning of this week. Let's dive in. First, a bit of context. In recent months, we have experienced traffic like never before. In April, we will probably end up with close to 30K user visits, which is three times what it was last year. At the same time, we receive dozens of daily messages from #climbers, #hikers, via ferrata enthusiasts, and #alpinists eager to book trips but are hesitant because some trips "are not confirmed yet" (meaning the minimum number of travelers for confirming a departure has not been reached). If you think about it, it makes sense. Some people want to plan their vacations entirely (experience + flights) for better peace of mind or budgeting purposes. Others are uncomfortable booking something that might not be confirmed. For reasons yet to be determined, this year, we felt this problem was particularly acute. Ask Sofia, and she will confirm. ?? So we thought, "What if we go to our beloved partner guides and propose an experiment?" Below, you can find a snippet of the email shared: "Dear partner, We will try to switch all departures' statuses to 'confirmed' for the next months. The goal is to eliminate any barriers to booking. My bet is that we will be able to convert a much larger chunk of this traffic into bookings. Let's be clear on this: We will bear the financial risk of this initiative. In the (hopefully unlikely) case there are just one or two bookings for some departures, we will cover the cost for the minimum number of people you actually require (or less, just in case you share part of the financial risk with us :)) The most important thing is that trip operations on your side can function smoothly, even with only one person. Keep being awesome! Dani" The results from this email have been mind-blowing: - Most of the guides have responded, telling us they love the approach and are willing to share the financial risk. - Bookings are up by over 500%. Let's see how it goes, but this is promising. I'm honestly not sure why we didn't do this before, but I guess better input metrics (a bigger community, more traffic, greater financial power) helped us feel more comfortable taking bolder risks with a bigger impact. Having our beloved partners (the guides) willing to share the good and the bad of this experiment with us is a testament that what we've created so far may be extremely valuable to them as well. ?? In conclusion, from the beginning of this week, all trips you see on Mapo Tapo will be confirmed. All departures will be guaranteed to run. This means that you can book your flights immediately after booking your trip. Worst-case scenario (very unlikely to happen, but still a possibility), you’ll have a private guide for the entire period. ?? Super curious to know your thoughts/feedback about this ?? #startup
