Caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s or dementia is an act of love, but it often comes at a cost. A staggering 77% of caregivers report sleep deprivation, 60% experience high stress or anxiety, and 40% face depression. These challenges impact not only caregivers' health but also their quality of life. At MapHabit, we believe in supporting both individuals living with dementia and their caregivers. By empowering people with dementia to independently complete activities of daily living (ADLs), our tool alleviates caregiver burden, improves quality of life, and promotes well-being for all involved. Let’s work together to ease the journey for caregivers and their loved ones. ?? Last week, MapHabit CEO Matt Golden had the privilege of attending the Enabling Technology and Innovation Summit: Innovation for Life in Tennessee. This inspiring event brought together innovators, advocates, and thought leaders committed to using technology to transform lives. Matt connected with incredible champions like Rachael Goddard and Jay Camperlino, who are leading efforts through the Tennessee Medicaid Alternative Pathways (MAPs) program. This initiative empowers young adults transitioning out of high school to leverage technology, enhancing their skills and fostering greater independence. We’re thrilled about the potential to collaborate and support this forward-thinking mission! A big thank you to the summit sponsors and organizers for hosting such a transformative event. Together, we’re paving the way for a more inclusive and empowered future. ?? As our workforce ages, the need for dementia-friendly workplaces grows. According to a new paper by Bank of America and the Alzheimer's Association?, nearly 1 in 5 U.S. workers is now 65 or older—almost double the rate from 1987. For employers, this means recognizing and supporting employees with cognitive concerns is more essential than ever. Early signs of cognitive impairment often appear on the job, but stigma and fear of repercussions can prevent employees from seeking help. Compassionate policies, workplace awareness, and appropriate accommodations allow employees to keep working with dignity, while preserving valuable institutional knowledge. As Alzheimer’s disease cases rise, early diagnosis becomes essential to improve patient outcomes. With nearly 7 million Americans affected, including about 1 in 9 people over 65, the urgency to recognize symptoms early is paramount, especially as this number is projected to nearly double by 2060. New therapies like anti-amyloid agents now offer a way to slow disease progression—if started early. These medications are most effective in the early stages, underscoring the need for timely evaluation and accessible diagnostics. Greg Cooper, MD, PhD, highlights practical solutions to overcome access barriers in his recent AJMC - The American Journal of Managed Care article, from coordinated primary care screenings to specialized clinic pathways that prioritize rapid assessment and treatment. Such innovations bring us closer to effective Alzheimer's care, enhancing both treatment access and patients' quality of life. Understanding traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) is a critical challenge, and a research team at Penn State University is making strides in addressing it. Led by Professor Reuben Kraft, this team is exploring how brain strain during impacts—often experienced in sports or military scenarios—can lead to cognitive changes. Using advanced computational modeling and custom mouthguard sensors, Kraft’s team aims to predict TBI by simulating how axonal fiber tracts, vital communication pathways in the brain, are affected by impact. Their model, called the "Brain Simulation Research Platform," could eventually help clinicians pinpoint injury locations and develop personalized treatment plans. The platform's predictive capabilities offer hope not just for better diagnostics but for proactive care, especially for those at high risk of repeated brain trauma. The language we use around autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has a significant impact, and terms like “high-functioning autism” come with misconceptions that can unintentionally stigmatize. This Cleveland Clinic article explains why autism is best understood not through labels, but by focusing on each person’s unique abilities and support needs. At #MapHabit, we believe in honoring individuality and respecting every person’s experience. As language and understanding evolve, we are committed to using terms that reflect compassion and inclusivity for all.
