This morning, Manufacture Alabama was joined by Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth and business leaders and officials from across the state to announce the formation of the new Alabama Aerospace and Defense Council, a group that will advocate for policies that encourage the growth of Alabama’s already significant aerospace and defense industries. The aerospace industry alone contributes $17.4 billion to Alabama’s economy, supporting 63,258 jobs. Military personnel and defense contracts generate $50.3 billion and nearly 265,000 jobs across the state. Manufacture Alabama’s Vice President of Policy and Advocacy, Robin Ricks, has been instrumental in the success of GLAM Camp. We are proud to support her ongoing efforts to expand GLAM Girls Learning About Manufacturing across Alabama.
If you haven't heard of GLAM Girls Learning About Manufacturing, it's about time you learn about the engaging, hands-on program. “The mission of GLAM is really simple," says Robin Ricks, who is the Founder and Executive Director of the program. "We want to create interest in careers in manufacturing among the next generation of women who are going to enter the workforce.” Bishop State Community College is a key partner in this endeavor. "I definitely feel big pride about Bishop being a part of GLAM," said Akareem Spears, who is Director of Workforce and Economic Development at the college. "When you see those young ladies come in and they’re a little scared, and the next day after you see them do some activities they’re confident, they’re bright-eyed, and they know there’s a lot of opportunities here for them in the advanced manufacturing and manufacturing sectors.” Thanks to Made in Alabama - Alabama Department of Commerce for sponsoring this video! #alabama #workforcedevelopment #womeninmanufacturing
