Lucky Lights Out number 14!! Today was the first full production day on our newest Hanwha XD-20, (install completed earlier this week). That takes Mantel Machine Products up to a total of 14 lights out capable machines. Coincidentally, this is the same amount of full time production employees we currently have on staff. Excited to be able to run more unattended production hours than ever before.
We added new capabilities for part marking today! Excited to bring this simple but necessary outside service in-house to cut down on cost and lead time for our customers!

Throwing sparks today! New toy, new capability added with our first laser marking system. There has been a huge influx of part marking requirements coming through the shop and instead of paying someone else to do it, we invested in our own setup. July 5th is an unpaid factory closed day. We decided to create two raffles to give 2 employees their full pay on that day. The first is a perfect attendance drawing for attendance in the month of June, and the second is the guessing game below. Simple but affective way to get employees engaged in something besides making chips ??

Adding another Swiss lathe to the shop floor! That makes a total of 8 Swiss's and 13 total machines that have lights out capabilities! Very exciting couple of weeks for Mantel Machine Products.

Getting two new lathes last week was not enough excitement so we decided to bring in another new machine this week! We purchased this Nexturn 12mm Swiss Lathe specifically to run the same part 24/7/365 for the next 5 years. 100% dedication to 1 part is not at all common in our job shop but we landed the work and needed to find the right niche machine to produce it. Excited to get this up and running next week as our customer ramps up production as well!
The first big purchase of 2024 has arrived to our facility today! More work to be done but we are very excited to get these up and running, and running all night long!

NEW MACHINE DAY!!! We took delivery on two brand new HAAS ST-20Y Lathes today! Our HAAS department tripled in capacity in a mater of a couple hours. The goal with these machines, matched with FMB bar loaders, is to run medium to low production runs on very simple parts. Parts that are done in 2-3 operations now we will run Lights Out for 1-4 days and then change to the next part. The sub-spindle option added to them means we will run all parts complete and burr free. The ease of setup and changeover drew us to the HAAS, and their unbeatable financing options sealed the deal.

Lately, we have seen large companies going through catastrophic findings of quality issues? , and a general feeling of all sized companies pushing production numbers vs quality of product. With having gone through ISO audits for the last 8 years, I know there are instances of just checking boxes to make the auditor happy. Has ISO become more pencil whipping than quality improvement? What do you think?
