I spent hours trying to fix this problem—and got nowhere. I ran through every possible solution. Tested every fix. Double-checked my logic. Still, nothing worked. That’s when my coworker at ManTech leaned in—not to give me the answer, but to walk me through the process. They broke down the issue, asked the right questions, and pushed me to think critically. Looking back, that moment taught me three things: 1. The best engineers don’t just solve problems—they help others level up. Early in your career, it’s easy to feel like you have to prove yourself by figuring everything out alone. But the fastest way to grow is by learning from those around you. Watching how someone more experienced thinks through a problem is just as valuable as the solution itself. 2. Asking for help is a skill. We talk a lot about technical skills in cybersecurity, but knowing?when?and?how?to ask for help is just as important. The best people in tech don’t hesitate to ask questions. They don’t see it as a weakness—they see it as fuel for improvement. 3. Teaching is the mark of a true expert. Some of the smartest people I’ve worked with aren’t just great at what they do. They take the time to explain things. They break down complex ideas. They make others around them better. That’s the kind of professional I aim to be. You don’t have to figure it all out alone. That moment with my coworker reminded me that the best learning happens?with?others, not in isolation. If you’re early in your career, don’t be afraid to reach out, ask questions, and learn from the people around you.
