I’m excited to share the preliminary findings from our first quality improvement study at Manos Juntas - OKC Free Clinic. While we anticipated food insecurity to be an issue, we were shocked to find that over 80% of our patients with diabetes are food insecure. This underscores the critical need for comprehensive support in managing diabetes. We’re looking forward to partnering with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma to better support our patients’ needs and improve their health outcomes. We are saddened to report that our clinic has recently been the target of vandalism. This week, we discovered that our HVAC units behind the building had been damaged, leaving our clinic without air conditioning. This follows several months of someone accessing our external electrical panel and shutting off the power, putting our refrigerated medications (e.g., insulin) at risk. In response to these incidents, we’ve installed security cameras around the building and a thermometer to monitor the refrigerators remotely. These senseless actions not only disrupt our operations but also jeopardize the health and safety of our patients and volunteers. We’ve attached a photo of the damage and an image of someone walking behind our building. Unfortunately, we didn't have cameras aimed at our HVAC units, so we cannot be certain if this person is responsible. We urgently need your support to repair the damage and improve the security of our clinic. Your donations will go directly toward these repairs and security measures.
