MANNA’s daily operations involve procuring, warehousing, and distributing food to over 220 partner agencies in the 16 counties of Western North Carolina – 18.2 million pounds in 2017/2018. The partner agencies include food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters and other emergency providers to support the more than 100,000 people who are facing food insecurity in WNC. In addition, MANNA provides direct services through our Feeding Kids Year Round Program, which provides MANNA Packs and Summer Packs and our MANNA Food Helpline and team of SNAP (formerly known as food stamps) outreach workers who assist people with access to cash benefits to supplement their food budget. Food insecurity rates are high in WNC, impacting more than 23.6% of children. Rural poverty is a particular challenge in the 6,434 square mile service area, and MANNA is committed to providing excellent service in a sometimes challenging terrain and environment. MANNA FoodBank is the proud recipient of a 4-star Charity Navigator rating for 8 consecutive years, and has a solid network of relationships with local partners, funders, and government agencies. It has a strong, talented 21-member board and an experienced and passionate staff. The organizational culture can be described as fast paced, hardworking, down-to-earth, mission driven, compassionate, and thankful towards clients, donors, partners and volunteers.

We apologize for being silent on this channel. Since the end of September, we have been responding to the ongoing crisis of Helene. Our story is just one of thousands after Hurricane Helene. The folks here in Western North Carolina are resilient people, and the same holds true for MANNA. In a span of six weeks, we have gone from a destroyed facility on the Swannanoa River to a pop-up distribution point at the WNC Farmers Market, from a new, empty warehouse to one that is now full of food and supplies. The reality is though, Western North Carolina still needs your help. Yes, we are resilient, but we also know that we must rely on the compassion and generosity of others. As the days get colder, let us remember our neighbors in the mountains without electricity. Let us remember the families that have lost their homes. Let us consider all the people who have gone without work these past four weeks. MANNA has always been in the business of helping people when they need it most, and we will continue to do that work moving forward. MANNA FoodBank has received two generous grants totaling $200,000 from Publix Super Market Charities! These funds will significantly impact our Feeding Children Year-Round program, providing essential resources to children and families facing food insecurity. Additionally, thanks to Publix's support, we'll add a new refrigerated vehicle to our fleet. Our team visited Tony Hill, owner of Apple Ridge Farms in Hendersonville, NC, and Lisa Reynolds (Director of Food Sourcing) at MANNA FoodBank - Asheville NC last week. We witnessed firsthand the flow of work within their operations and how both organizations are actively working to keep people fed. During my time as an AmeriCorps VISTA at Warren Wilson College I gained skills in?program coordination, volunteer management, and community outreach. I'm deeply grateful to the Community Engagement team at WWC for their supervision and mentorship. I'm excited to share that I accepted a position at MANNA FoodBank - Asheville NC as the Community Markets Coordinator. I've been working at MANNA for nearly a month, and it's felt like the perfect match.
