  • ? Calling families with 3- and 4-year-olds! ? "4K and Riverview (Early Learning Community in MPSD) has been just a positive experience, the teachers have just been incredible," parent Kyrsten Jones says. "Mostly, my kids have loved it. For me, in the Manitowoc area, Riverview is the 'higher education' school. They challenge my kids. We actually lived in (a neighboring community) before and they have great schools there but coming here, it challenged him, every teacher challenged him a little bit more." ?? 4K registration opens soon and we are preparing for staffing and programming for 2025-2026. ?? bit.ly/mpsd-census If you are not already in our system, please fill out this census form - bit.ly/mpsd-census - to help us plan for the maximum potential students and ensure you're on the list to get the information you need. • A MPSD Jackson Elementary School mom is one of more than 1,400 people in Wisconsin who are in need of a kidney donation. New Jackson Teacher/ Interventionist Colleen Piaskowski donated a kidney in 2018 to another young mom in need and calls it one of the "most rewarding experiences" of her life. ?? Piaskowski is hosting a "Living Organ Donation Q & A Session" on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 4:30 p.m. in the Jackson Gym - it's open to anyone in the community! Please join us! "So many lives could be saved if people better understood the facts surrounding donation," Piaskowski said. "I would love for you to join me to learn more about the process, clear up some myths and misconceptions, and answer any questions you may have. I encourage you to attend even if you have no plans on becoming a donor yourself. Being educated on the topic and being able to pass along that knowledge is also incredibly important. I hope to see you on Feb. 4!"

  • Interim Supt. Lee Thennes has been visiting all MPSD schools this month but on Friday, he headed to Wilson Middle School to sub for the day for custodian Steve Scherer. Scherer is one of four MPSD employees who won an extra personal day as a raffle prize at the all-staff welcome back event in August. While Scherer is enjoying a day off, Thennes is learning the ropes from Wilson head custodian Steve "Farmer" Wisnicky. Thanks to Thennes for walking a mile in his staff members' shoes to better understand all they do for our students, staff and families!

  • ?? Did you know that the Manitowoc Public School District is the ONLY school district in Wisconsin that partners with the Metropolitan Opera's HD Live in Schools program to help expose students to opera music? The MPSD has worked with the Met for the past 15 years! ?? As one of just 66 participating school districts nationwide, Manitowoc Lincoln High School band director Rebekah Nyenhuis got to travel, all expenses paid, to the Met's National Educator Conference in New York Oct. 8-11. Lincoln High students can attend operas that are live-streamed at the Marcus Cinema in Sheboygan. These live-streams are so popular that student demand often surpasses the number of tickets we have! The next one opening in cinemas on Oct. 19 is Grounded, a new opera based on the story of a female fighter pilot. Ms. Nyenhuis got to see Grounded during the National Educator Conference and was excited to tour an aircraft carrier before the show! Grounded was written by Jeanine Tesori, the same composer who wrote the music for "Shrek the Musical." The conference also featured workshops, keynotes and conversations with opera stars and members of the Met’s creative teams to help teachers identify and cultivate strategies to incorporate opera into their classrooms. Thank you to The Met for providing MPSD with a wealth of educational resources! https://lnkd.in/gZpzbH5N #WeAreMPSD #MPSDmusic #ShipsPride #MetOpera #Opera
