关于我们
Reflecting the vision of the Civil Rights Movement, Manhattan Country School teaches students in a community with no racial majority and broad economic diversity. Our goals for students are academic excellence, intellectual freedom, social awareness, self-confidence, and firsthand knowledge of the natural world. MCS is unique among NYC independent schools in having a 180-acre working farm integral to the curriculum and a slide scale for tuition.

Summer-Grace recapped the 6th grade Farm experience this week: In textiles, students crocheted, needle felted, and used looms to weave.? In nature class, they hiked and learned about native leaves in our forest, along with indigenous methods of marking trails by bending saplings. Students also learned about deciduous trees and coniferous trees. In farming class, students collected seeds from our gardens, preserving seeds adapted to our Farm environment for future use. In cooking class, they made several delicious meals and snacks! Students also enjoyed free time with the Farm animals and playing games such as Ghosts in the Graveyard, Sardines, and a game they created called “Marshmallow Run” - a mix between Freeze Tag and Hide and Seek. Students kept up with their daily chores, including milking and feeding cows, bottle-feeding calves, collecting eggs, and feeding the pigs. During quiet time, they reflected in their farm journals, and a few worked on speeches for the class representative election. #education #farmeducation #mcsfarm #progressiveeducation #nycindependentschools #mcsnowmorethanever

Every year, 4-5s students join their parents and caregivers to cook their favorite family dishes for the class. They connect their experiences to learning about the five senses in science and units of measurement for math! The result is a class cookbook for everyone to enjoy for years to come. Yum! #prek #earlychildhoodeducation #education #progressiveeducation? #nycindependentschools #mcsnowmorethanever
