Despite once having a comfortable salary. And now? The job market isn’t what it used to be. The roles that match your expertise don’t match your former salary. Your network, once full of hiring managers, is now full of… well, fellow job seekers. Not ideal. But here’s the thing: You’re not starting over. But you are starting fresh. Rethinking Your Next Step Reframe Your Value, Not Just Your Resume Let’s face it if anyone knows how to keyword-optimize a resume, it’s you. But it’s not just about ATS-friendly job titles anymore. It’s about proving how you solve problems right now. Hiring managers aren’t just asking, “What did you do?” They’re asking, “What can you do for me today?” So, highlight impact, not just responsibilities. Consulting & Project-Based Work: A Bridge, Not a Backstep If you’ve ever told a candidate to “consider contract work to get their foot in the door”… guess what? Time to take your own advice. Companies are still hiring recruiters, just not always full-time. Advisory roles, fractional gigs, and short-term contracts can keep you in the game and keep the bills paid. Leverage Your Network (Strategically, Not Desperately) We’ve all seen it someone fires off a “HEY EVERYONE, I’M OPEN TO WORK” post and then… crickets. Your network isn’t just for job searching. It’s for real conversations. Instead of blasting out cold DMs, have meaningful chats about industry trends, hiring shifts, and where the real opportunities are. Your skills do transfer, even if they don’t fit neatly into the job title you had before. Invest in Yourself During This Transition Upskilling isn’t just a buzzword it’s a competitive edge.
