The Dogwood Vietnam Memorial, the very first public memorial dedicated to honor the local casualties from the war, is expanding. First dedicated on April 20, 1966, the memorial accommodates 22 Charlottesville, Albemarle, and 6 UVA students who had connections to the area,?including Doug Caton’s brother, W-1 Gerald Caton. It was recently discovered that 27 UVA students had not been included in the current memorial. The Dogwood Vietnam Memorial Foundation has decided to include these young men. A new plaza will be built to accommodate these individuals with a memorial plaque. To help finance the quarter-of-a-million-dollar project, 4x8 memorial bricks are being sold to honor any USA veteran. Thanks to a generous gift from MSC and The Caton Companies, memory bricks for all 33 UVA students have now been placed.?The Foundation is honored that MSC and The Caton Companies will help bring this plaza to fruition.
