High performance is less about expertise than it is environment. The environment you create as a boss is going to be critical in creating high performance in your team, therefore enabling you to be high performing. 1?? First and foremost - safety. If you do not create a safe place for people, one where mistakes are okay, challenges are not diminished, needs are not ignored - you won't achieve high performance. You will use this as the foundation for building high performance. 2?? Clear expectations. People have to know what you expect from them and not be surprised about what you are measuring success against. You also need to make expectations two-way, what do they expect from you in terms of support? 3?? Be Flexible. Micromanagement is a huge complaint that people have about their manager- that is often because managers try to prescribe exactly how to do something rather than outline what output is expected. 4?? Be radically transparent. This connects to managing expectations, if someone isn't meeting your expectations- be direct and address it early. No one should ever be surprised by your assessment in a performance review. Communicate what is happening with the team to the team. Don't hide information that is okay to be shared (there will always be some information that is private that a manager has privy to - transparent can also mean being clear you are unable to discuss something) 5?? Advocate and follow through. Be on your employees side! Show them you care by advocating for development or promotion/pay opportunities and maintain trust by following though with your commitments. High performance is about creating the environment to enable people to show up and do what they do best. As a manager, you play the most critical role in leading organizational change with your team - communicating key messages, coaching on new behaviors, and that famous role "managing resistance." But what does it even mean to manage resistance? Navigating resistance isn't just about methodology and strategies; it's about understanding the emotional currents beneath the surface. When we face pushback, it's often a reflection of fears, uncertainties, or unmet needs. Addressing these emotions directly—listening, empathizing, and validating concerns—is the missing puzzle piece no change methodology can do for you. With this approach, you will rethink what "resistance" is and convert it into powerful collaboration. ? In this one day program, you'll learn the fundamental roles of a people manager in organizational change and practical skills you can start using immediately. But more importantly, you'll learn what to DO on a day-to-day basis as you play these roles to cultivate trust and transform resistance into resilience. If your managers aren't equipped to manage effectively, is your change set up to fail? Change is constant in today’s business world, and organizations invest heavily in strategies to navigate it. But there’s a critical oversight in many change initiatives: the assumption that managers already have the foundational skills needed to support their teams. Without strong coaching, communication, and leadership fundamentals, even the best change strategies will struggle to succeed. We often ask managers to guide their teams through uncertainty—yet, are we equipping them with the right tools to do so? Before expecting managers to drive change, we must first ensure they have the core management skills to lead effectively. Here are my thoughts (visual form) on what is hard to do in change management if you don't already have the corresponding foundational management skills? What do you think? #ChangeManagement #LeadershipDevelopment #ManagementSkills #WorkplaceCulture #Leadership #BusinessTransformation
